TV & internet recommendations

Sick and tired of TimeWarner Cable. Live in south Durham, anybody got any suggestions. I want better internet than I have, as i can't stream netflix, two people surf the web and do online courses at the same time without lag, pauses, and upload timeouts.
currently getting 2.68Mbps download and .93Mbps upload according to speedtest.net
Like HD programming, but huge sports and HBO etc aren't my thing
 
TV - go with DirectTV.. I will never go back to TWC after going to Direct.. picture quality is awesome and even got some new channels I did not have on TWC.

I also switched to CLear for internet.. not the fastest service but works just as well as TWC and now I dont pay TWC a dime so that makes me happy :)

if you decide to go with Direct send me a message and i will send you my account number,.. then we both save $10 per month on our bill..it is there refer a freind program they have
 
If you rent your equipment from time warner the mode. Is a pos and the router they rent isn't good either. Go get your own equipment and it will work faster. And if you are on the 10mbps package and have two cell phones two laptops and a tv or game console all using it at once you are probably just put of bandwidth.

I live in a different area so cannot recomend a internet Company but Direct TV is a no brainer. I have had Direct TV since at least 98 and when I visit other people with cable it is like watching TV with rabbit ears.
 
Direct TV is pretty awesome. It's worth it. There are a few channels I had on cable that I don't have with Direct TV which is kind of annoying (mostly NBC channels...no NBC Sports, which used to be Versus). Other than that, it's been pretty good.

For internet I have CenturyLink, only because its all that is available here. Its decent, 9.56 - 10 mbps on the upload usually. Not super quick, but not noticeably slow either.

You don't have channel 220? What package do you have?
 
Directv does have NBCsports (220 AND 221)

That said, DirecTv has pretty good picture quality, the issue to me is losing picture in severe storms. (Spare me the you arent aimed right argument, Im 99-100 on all signal strengths and severe rain will knock it out.) They are also expensive....Ive never had TWC, but before we moved we had comporium cable and it was almost as good for literally less than half the price.

We have DSL through ATT because again its our only choice (other than satellite internet...no thanks)

Its not worth a shit, but its what we have.

I love dish network I hate direct tv they always were raising prices and being a pita.

Charter comm also sucks
 
Call TWC and complain. Ours went shitty, and it was a hardware failure. It took about a month for parts to come in, but they fixed it.

No way you're dragging it down, unless you're trying to watch several HD streams at the same time or a bunch of bit torrent traffic AND then running speed test. Gaming doesn't pull any significant traffic, and connected devices don't matter unless they're doing work.
 
You should be able to get FiOS in Durham.
 
I'm currently using Clear for internet service but gave up on the high cost of tv providers and just went over the air and internet. Works great for almost 2.5 years now and I'm saving $80-$100 a month.
 
I've got AT&T DSL and it sucks compared to TWC. We can usually stream Netflix, so long as noone else is using the internet at the house.
