tonight, 9pm on CBS.
Mack Trucks president went undercover a few months ago. The undercover action was done at the truck factory in Allentown, PA, engine factory in Hagerstown, MD, PDC in Baltimore, and a dealership in Chicago. They came to Greensboro to film the final town hall segment. If you watch closely, you might see me or drkelly hanging out in the crowd. I bet they have a token shot of the HQ building too, visible from I-40.

I have to admit, I kind of like this show. It's nice seeing "reality" dawn on the CEOs that are so disconnected from their employees.

Not a big fan of how they sometimes choose to give stuff/"help out" the people that they met, though. When they get promoted or given new positions that matches their aptitude, that's great and makes sense. But when they just give them personal cash, schoolarships for kids, etc b/c somebody is having a hard time, I have to wonder what the other employees think. It's basically just a matter of luck that the boss happened across that person out of all the others.

I also find it curious that you never see the undercover boss get teamed up w/ somebody that is a clear deadweight or an asshole and needs to be fired. Now THAT would make better TV!

You should Approach them with that.Undercover Boss Season Two:Assholes and Deadweights.
I'd tune in for that.

We'll really turn it up : Undercover Boss: Federal Agencies (AKA assholes and deadweights).

You actually think thats luck? No way, I fully believe the show investigates the workers and their backround so that they can add to the drama of the show, specially the shows where the ceo's and workers have both lost kids. That is no coincidence :shaking:

I'd love to see it with some real screw ups but who is going to be a screw up with cameras around. They need to have hidden cameras for next season to really catch any screwing around

there was one with Hooters CEO Colby Brooks, there was a manager in Texas that was degrading the girls, making them eat a plate of beans no hands for time off.

the guy should have been fired on the spot, I'd have come out of character on that deal.

I don't know if the guy ever did actually get canned, possibly not for legal reasons of the show.

IF every episode wasn't the same it would be better. Every damn time - boss is incompetent at his job, one worker is super inspirational, one worker has been screwed by company and needs things set right, one worker has an outrageous sob story and they discuss it in depth on camera.

Yep. I saw the Hooters episode. I would have canned the guy right on the spot! I'm surprised the guy got to the position of manager. he was an ass!

The early shows showed a few deadbeats but the most recent ones all show good workers and charity, etc....

Exactly. On another note, it's pretty fawkin lame to be the ceo's of one of these corporations for any length of time and not have any clue how all of the operations actually work.

lame yeah. but realistic.
Managers of say a restaraunt are no longer in the food business they are in the management/people business. Usually Accountants etc progress up towards CFO-> CEO roles.

Not many could do the front line jobs, which is ok. But they better know what makes a good front line employee.

He resigned his position for personal reasons . Or at least that was the official release .

I know it happens, I still think it's shitty practice to have as little idea as these guys (seem to--it is tv) have as to how their business works other than finances.

I will guarantee that the employees who are chosen to work with the CEO are hand picked by the shows staff. The same things every week. The CEO has to be prompted on getting the person to talk about their problems on camera.

I did get a kick at the guy trying to put the cover on the engine tonight though. Evidently he has no mechanical know how at all. That was a pretty simple job.

Yeah...I'm sticking with my conspiracy theories and saying they do what makes good tv. I just don't see some of these folks pouring their hearts out the way they do for some guy they're training for a couple of hours, like last night's, with the grand father who has the two special needs grand children. I feel for him and the family, but I don't know many folks that would open up like that within a couple of hours, but they seem to find at least one person every episode. Hell, I've been in a perpetual state of training for the last year and haven't had anyone up to me like that. IMO, it's tv, and meant for nothing else but entertainment, and they've simply found another genre to exploit. I'm not saying the stories and people aren't real...just that I think it's a little more 'fixed' than they lead on. I mean really, this is the shows second season, and people still think somebody wants to do a reality show on assembly line workers?????? (No offense to the assembly line workers, I was one, and my dad has been one for 30 years).
