Veterans commemorative ride idea

I have an idea that I would like too throw out there. There are many members here on nc4x4 and the wheeling comunity that are active duty millitary, retired, and those that are not with us anymore. I would like to organize a ride on veterans day weekend this year to celebrate all those who served and are serving today.

I think it would also be a good chance for all millitary members to get together and meat each other. I am thinking ure to do this at as it is a central location that pretty much everyone is comfortable wheeling.

I am thinking an event starting on veterans day november the 11th with camping that evening, saturday with group rides and a comemoration gathering someplace around midday, and then maybe some sort of dinner chow sat afternoon.

I think this woud be a great way to show how much people still care about our veterans, and that they are our true heroes.

Please post up what ya think and elaborate on the idea

I love the idea and would love to tag along and meet some of my brothers and sisters, but I won't be back in the States by Veterans Day. I'll be there in spirit though!
 
Unfortunately I would not be able to make that ride. Carolina Trail Blazers already has a ride planned for that weekend in at Harlan.
 
I've been planning on taking my father to Uwharrie for his first time this fall. He served 3 yrs in the Air Force after college as part of an ROTC scholarship. I might try and bring him for this ride. We would just come down for the day on Saturday.

I think i have a plan narrowed down now, Lets set up camp at art lilley on friday. There is plenty of trailer parking and a ton of room in the woods for tent camping, your popup and , or camper is also allowed to camp in the gravel lot.I think this will keep cost down( all youll need is your ohv pass.)

Friday night well head too Zekos for supper!

Start off saturday with some good riding, we could split into groups or all line up together.

Saturday eveing I would like to grill for everyone, of course i can not grill that much food by myself. If you would be interested in bringing a grill and help cooking that would be great.

If anyone could bring fixins, chips , drinks, tater salad and so on that would be great as well. As for what too grill , if anyone would like to help me in the cooking we could hash it out as too what too cook!

I'm down Jason.I want to help with cooking also.I'll talk to a good friend of mine and see if he would like to help also.He cooks a mean pig.I'll pm ya man.
 
sounds like a great idea, unfortunatly i'll be deployed in bahrain otherwise i'd be there in a heartbeat

Tenative schedule

We will set up camp at art lilley friday morning, riding of course will be all day.

Around 5oclock or so well head out to zekos for some good italian(love that place and its close)

Set up in groups for riding saturday morning probably leaving out about 10 am or so.

Ride till around 330 and everyone meat back up at art lilley for food and fellowship.(gets dark earlier)
Will also take a group veterans picture at the dinner.

Supper will be free for all veterans!!! I am working on making it no charge for all guests!

Sat night , night ride ar sit around a warm fire tell some stories and remember all those that we have lost.

Head out sun morn,

This ride is too celebrate all the men and women who have given so much for our freedom. It will also be a great oppurtunity for all of us millitary members to meet each other. Please come out and show how much we all apreciate thier service and that they are the TRUE HEROES!!

Very interested. Just have to see how my schedule looks when I get back from Recruiter school.
 
I am Veteran along side with Jason and this is a ride that should happen and i will always stand along my Brothers in Arms
So if you are a Veteran or you have a father, brother, sister, or mother thats one you should come out on this ride.

And Jason the song was sick it explains a lot of how we are.
 
I am putting this on my schedule. There isn't a much better reason for getting together than to honor those who have served and those who are still serving our country. Especially on Veterans day!
 
Putting it on the calendar right now! (the cooler weather is a HUGE plus with me right now... tired of sweating!)

Might be able to have my Dad ride along too.
 
That's a great idea and would love to come join yall with the family for a great day for a ride. Is this going to be a Uwharrie?

Yes it will be at uwharrie, and well be glad to have ya j bear and caver dave,, seriously tired of sweating myself too.
