And here is the view from the side, note the large bulge towards the bottom.

Surgery is in my future, but on the bright side I can now show my ex wife that I wasn't faking the pain.

yep. broken back in two different events.

my discs are destroyed. but ive been putting off surgery. the Dr. didnt recommend i open that pandoras box at my age the last time i broke my back. that was nearly 10 years ago.

you learn to move different, walk different, and say no to certain invites.

one minute your moving fine, the next you have to look over should to see who just drive that sword through your spine.

best of luck to ya bud.

Hell, sometimes looking over your shoulder is all it takes to throw it out! I usually lunch mine when I'm doing something like picking up shoes or coughing while pooping or something.

Oh man that's the worst when you throw your back while taking a poop. You sit there and contemplate exactly how important it is to wipe or just say F it, I'll just crawl to the tub and wash.

I was having a Bad back day at work, Years ago. I had a rollback truck backed up to a short dock at work. Unloaded something, & then hung the chains back up. Dropped my pencil, & {Hey, This Ain't No Joke!} bent over to get it, & That's how I stayed. I couldn't straighten back up. I couldn't even figure how to get off the truck! Diagnosed as a Lumbar Strain. I was already seeing a Chiropractor, but per company rules/insurance, I had to go to the Urgent Quack Clinic. They gave me some Pain pills, which I didn't take, & since it was Friday afternoon, I got off a couple hours early. Rest, Walking, & Iceing, I was back at work Monday.
{Yea, it Hurt}

If they are doing a micro discectomy, it isn't too bad, I've had two. Went back to work, light duty (desk work), in two weeks. Both of mine were multiple levels. You won't be 16 again, but you'll be better then you are now. Good luck.

Been dealing with family crap since I posted this.

More than once I have not been able to get out of bed. Once I managed to ge out only to be on all fours next to the bed unable to move.

Back in 2000 I was in a bad wreck in Charlotte where a 96 year old man jumped his car over the median on Freedom Dr, and landed on top of my car. About a year after we settled up on the wreck I started having these problems. It has been fun dealing with it this long. I finally went to a doc who didn't say I was too young to hurt this bad. Sent me for an MRI and found this.

For some reason he did not have them do the MRI on my upper back that is worse than the lower.

I got a call from the docs office today wanting to schedule my surgery. Now we are playing telephone tag.

I also have two messed up discs.

last time they caused issue i was fixing a toilet.. but usually no issues just have to take care of what I do and be smarter now then I used to be when lifting heavy items

Are they going to remove the disc and fuse the vertebrae?

Talking about funny.

One morning I woke up and I had to pee. I don't mean I had to tinkle. I had to pee like Niagara Falls through a garden hose.

When I rolled out of bed, I did exactly that. I rolled over and wound up on my hands and knees beside the bed. Now I am on all four, trying not to piss myself, and unable to get up.

So I backed out and made a 180 degree turn into the bathroom and another 90 degree turn to the toilet. I looked like I was docking with the space station. I managed to get back far enough to dangle over the toilet and peed. Then I crawled back to the bed and 45 minutes later I had managed to get back in bed.

We need new buttons. "Like" isn't really correct. It's more like "yea, been there felt that" it just "ouch"!

I have not heard a word from the doc since I went on July 5th. I called yesterday and got the run around and told they would call back today. At noon today I called and got the schedulers voicemail. I threw a royal fit. I told them that my wife starts back to work in September (If she finds another teaching job) and I couldn't keep a 4 year old while I was recovering. I wanted this taken care of ASAP or I would find another doc. Amazingly enough I got scheduled for surgery on Monday.

Currently not sleeping for more than 20 minutes at a time. Well except for the night I drank a bottle of Makers Mark just to get some rest. I woke up and felt like I had been trampled by elephants in golf shoes. No hangover though, just back pain.

Sounds like your dealing w the VA? My father-in-law is and he's getting the same kind of BS.

Back pain is a bitch I've known for 30 yrs. My neck was fubared 30 yrs ago in a crash and I have had sciatica for 10 years from a herniated L5 disc. I have tried/had everything but surgery so far w some improvement, but everyday I have pain, muscle spasms and numbness. I hope your surgery goes well and you get some relief

Been there....done that, got the T-shirt....back pain sucks, L4 & L5 are toast! years ago, I left a chiropractor (as I got the same "too young for surgery" line from the doctors).....barely walked out of the office, got in my car, drove to work, opened the door of the car, fell face first on the asphalt and spent 45 mins. trying not to piss myself and make it back into the drivers seat to drive to the ER....got to the ER only to replay the same scene, with doctors and nurses passing me laying on the ground....thank you DUKE!

A warning to you, having had reocurring back pain for a decade now, I didn't think twice when I had severe pain in my back 6 months ago, the pain got so bad I was vomiting and 100% unable to find a position where the pain would let up....turns out it was kidney stones! If the pain gets significantly worse than normal out of the blue....it isn't in your head....go to the ER....5 hrs of pain induced vomitting was stopped in 5 mins!

Good luck to you!

Monday I went in and got sliced on. things went great. Doc said I would be barely walking after surgery, and that the next day would be worse.

Well he was right. Yesterday I thought someone one had torn me in half. It took me 20 minutes to get up to go pee. I mean just getting up. The out of the bed part. 45 minutes later I was back in bed.

I made three trips across teh house and back and felt like I had run a marathon.

Today should be even more fun.

Some of you know that Steph is a teacher and has been looking for a new job after the Newton Conover school turned out to be a turd of a place. Well not the place, the principal. In the last 2 years there have been 30 different teachers come and go. There are only 14 teachers on staff. That is no way to treat special needs children.

She has been putting in applications and Monday while I was being sliced on had her umpteenth interview. Yesterday she called and she got the job. She started today. SO heath and I are on our own.

Keep your eye on the local news. If you hear about a 4 year old who disassembled the house while his dad laid in bed drugged you will know what happened.

I had back surgery when I was 32 years old and 12 weeks pregnant with my youngest. Doc said no way I could carry the baby and be "ok" after delivery, turns out best thing I ever did. I was scared beyond words because I had to be awake for the entire thing and they kept talking to me and asking if I was ok, I just remember telling them to turn the music up that I could still hear the hammering, banging, & scraping noises they were doing to my spine. L5, S1 disc removed and vertebrae fused together. Baby girl is now 12 years old and my back is in great shape.

Just got the verdict on mine as L5/S1. PT every day and hoping that will keep it in place. Can't believe what you went thru. Puts things in perspective.
