I am wondering what rear Dana 60 and Dana 70 shafts go for?? How much do they cost to get and does it matter if they are 29, 31 or 35 spilne?? I am wondering why more people dont run 1 ton stuff if everyone can buy axles for soooo damn cheap???

Personally I have a 14b and i have a set of spares shafts in the event i break what i have, i didn't pay anything for the spares.... So no i don't need D60/D70 shafts.... Well maybe if they were free id take some..

Didn't you sell your jeep? :wtf:

You can get Yukon chro-moly 30 or 35 spline D60 shafts for $228 shipped.

Yes rob i did we all know that.

I am not talking about my jeep. People stummble across things and get there hands on stuff everyday. I am asking a question.

An entire axle assembly is only worth $100. You want that much for just the shafts?

where do you get rear 60 & 70's for $100?????

I have never heard of that before. For $100 why isn't everyone and their granmother running one ton rears then??? A junk yard will not seel you an entire DANA 60 or 70 or 14 bolt or 9 inch for $100:shaking: will they?? If so i need to tell my friends that.

I *did* have to pay something for my 14-bolt rear spare shafts. I got them for $40 from the scrap yard when I was there taking a scrap car. If they had done it by weight (which they usually do at the scrap yard) it would have been much cheaper, so I was kind of mad. :)

I know a 14-bolt isn't the same as a 60 or 70, but should compare, since they are FF rears of about the same strength.

You are going to notice that people on this board don't want to pay junkyard prices for parts. That's why they're shopping here. So the stuff is not worth as much here as you are expecting, unless you find someone in desperate need of the part, who can't go find it for themselves.

And I agree with the $100 comment, if you shop around and have time to look for a good deal, but it's usually from an individual, not usually from a junkyard. I sold a 30-spline FF D-60 from a Dodge for $100, and got the same for a Ford 9-inch from a 1985 F-150.

there is much more to an axle swap than just the axle... there is diff clearance vs tire size, gears, brakes, wheel bolt pattern etc...

Ive got a 60 rear because it was the same price as a 44/9"/etc. Paid $125 delivered 10 miles to my front door (granted, gas was about .85/gallon then). I bought my front D60 complete for $300 in good condition, only reason I swapped the D30. Deals are out there, they are just getting harder and harder to find. Thats one of the reasons I don't encourage people to get into wheelin, I can't afford for anyone else to find good deals.

in response to why everyone isn't running 1-tons. i would say that you can get a $100 dollar rear, but the 1 ton front is NOT going to be 100 bux. going prices are around 800-1200 or higher, depending if it's a balljoint 60 or kingpin, blah blah blah. that'd be one of the reason's i'm still runnin what i have. someone correct me/give your opinion if you think otherwise

I think the main reason is that, like someone said, there is more to it than the price of the axles. For example, on my TJ, even if I found a D60 rear for $100, if I didn't have the skills/tools to do the swap, it would be $250 for a bracket kit, and another $200 or so to have someone set it up. So assuming the gears are right, the bolt pattern isn't different, and all the bearings/seals are good, thats still $550 no matter what.

^Don't be a prick just because you don't like the guy. He does bring up a valid point.

don't forget some sort of posi or locker 400+. shoot I spent close to 2 K on my d44 and AMC 20 but the time they wer completly done. and I aready had the axles. now a good built axle that will bolt right in to you rig is worth somthing, but never worth what is cost to build it.

Just for the record, I yanked a post out of here that was just pure flame war material and a personal attack.

Yes it is easy to attack, or if something annoys you, simply ignore it/don't read the thread....

But jumping down their throat to do so, ain't all that cool..."kidding" is fine, heck I give Matt (Doughboy) a hard time about the rock stuff, and someone else did here too in this thread, but folks give me hard time, but somewhere a line gets crossed?

So...moved some stuff outta here....thx!
Sam
