What are you jacking off with on the trail?

As the title says, I’m looking for a better option for trail jack than a heavy bulky hi lift, and as great as a 3 ton Daytona is, it’s too heavy to haul around

What are you guys using, tauler jack (Brennan fab), off road modded Pittsburg aluminum, bottle jack with saddle, air bag jack, etc?

I’m leaning towards the bottle jack for storage, but it has its limitations.

This will be a on the trail jack, I will have the 3 ton Daytona back at camp/ trailhead

Liking the post just because of the great title ha ha! I’ve used a high lift, a floor jack, a winch, and the factory jack. Of all of them, the factory screw jacks seems to be the most versatile and safest 40% of the time which is more than the others.

Major drawback of hi lift is the kick on descent, weight, and how freaking long it is.

Honestly Tauler goes from 6-50 in but it’s also large though not as heavy.

Bottle Jack with saddle has short range unless you get a butload of extensions

Arb etc have hydraulic hi lift types but cost prohibitive

Air bag jacks look sketchy won’t the 1/4” air hose holding pressure

Aluminum off-road jacks or modified Pittsburg is kind of expensive and still bulky

Honestly I’m leaning Tauler since it’s all mechanical unless someone has a better idea

I used to carry a hi lift all the time, but got tired of storing it. It's always be reliable and as safe as you make it.

Now a carry a bottle jack with a couple 4x6 pieces. I haven't had to use it to see how much of a pain in the ass it is though.
This. My hi lift has helped me more in my shop fabricating more then anything.

I just got a Tauler and haven't even welded it up yet. Pretty compact and simple. I know some west coast guys who use them so I got me and Jr one for Cmas. He has his all ready, with no running rig. I'll get to mine eventually

I won't hit the trail without my hi lift, but that's because it has 1000 uses that doesn't involve actually lifting the truck to work on something. I also carry one of these and it's the shit: https://www.northerntool.com/products/powerbuilt-3-ton-unijack-bottle-jack-and-jackstand-in-one-lift-capacity-3-tons-max-lift-height-21-in-model-620471-5710546?cm_mmc=Google-pla&utm_source=Google_PLA&utm_medium=Automotive > Jacks > Floor Jacks&utm_campaign=Powerbuilt&utm_content=5710546&ogmap=SHP|PLA|GOOG|STND|m|SITEWIDE|INTRADE|AutoRepair|{adgroup}||857740998|42214669823&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=857740998&gbraid=0AAAAADpPfbPODEIw7O8ZevidVo8yBY6ZL&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4eHLBhCzARIsAJ2NZoJ4EI_10JYHVdWrP1A_s0DP7JHcnLAPvJZOrD1c1b7UjON9qi8xvcIaAuJhEALw_wcB

I use that whenever I actually have to wrench on something. If the link is being dumb it's one of those bottle jack, jack stand combos. 10/10 recommend.

I made one of the jacks

This scares me, lol. I know it's sitting on the rear tires still, but it makes me think of a high lift falling to the side with one lift point.
Depending on what you are working on, the Tauler jack could fit under the vehicle and lift just the axle, compared to a high lift. But still likely more complicated than a screw or bottle jack.

I think it really depends on what you think you might need. The tauler has accessories and can do most, if not all that a high lift can do. Add in a bottle/screw jack to the mix for jacking under the axle.

Running with the trailer jack idea a little, what if you were to put these common trailer jack mounts in a few places around the vehicle and then you could carry 1 or 2 of those trailer jacks and be able to do whatever you needed:

4 corners and 2 jacks would cover the whole vehicle.

I’m thinking combo of bottle jack for under with a spring perch welded upside down for lifting axles, and the things jeepinmattt sent on the 4 corners would do 99% of trail fixes

Benefit of tauler is height increments from 6-50 in
