What does it take to become a "legit competitor" in the eyes of a tire company?

Some tires, like the BFG red labels and some of the maxxis compounds, are only available to legit competitors. It's my understanding that you don't have to be Shannon Campbell to be a legit competitor. You don't even have to be a real contender, you just have to compete.

How does a guy like me get in good with a tire company? What's the process for getting started?

This could be stupid, but if it were me, I would start by emailing the company then go from there.

I should have mentioned, I called BFG and the person on the phone didn't know anything about a "competition compound" or "red label". It seemed like I needed a knowledgeable contact to get started in the process. I sent a PM to Creighton the "Maxxis tire guy" from pirate and he hasn't replied yet but it's only been a day so it's early to write him off.

I thought maybe somebody around here would know how to get in with those guys.

Best way is to enter a Comp.. I know a few who have entered comps and they Got BFG contact info just by entering (oh and participating at the event the entered)

bigwoody runs his a few times and sells them
seems it would be easier to buy his than go though all the bs
