Whats the best way to see if a car has a V8...

Without checking under the hood?

Long story short, guy I know brags about this huge V8 in his mustang, yet he wont show it to anyone.

Whats the best way to check and see if it has one? He CLAIMS its a 6cyl mustang that someone dropped a v8 into. It sounds decent...but then again hes got some exhaust work done...
 
I know a lot of guys around the drag strips that won't show anyone what they have before the bet and race. Ill probably bet your not in that type of situation but it happens. I have seen a lot of people claim to have a V8 and then not have one, then I have seen guys who say its a stock V8 and then the damn things has like 800hp.

next time he brags ( only follow these next steps if your really sure its a 6 or your gonna look really dumb) walk up to him slap him like a lil girl go pop his hood and smile and laugh....this will also require some amount of balls and possibly a assault charge. good luck
 
There is a noticeable difference in exhaust noise/tone, the v8 will be deeper, not exactly louder though. If you hear a v8 next to a v6 you will know the difference.

My gf has a mustang with a 3.8 and true duals with H pipe and twin 40 series flowmasters. People ask her all the time if it is a v8, but it clearly sounds like a v6.
 
I once had an escort GT that would do that. Hell, I can do that w/my yj, and it has 33's and a 4cyl
 
Easier just to read the vin.....then search it.

Um - if it WAS a v6 but had an 8 dropped in, thsi won't do you much good.
 
6cyl and 8cyls have totally different sounds - tricked out exhaust or not.

Look in the windsheild, copy the VIN, CARFAX might tell you.
 
sounds to me like he's a douche with an ego. find someone with a real v8 mustang and have him race it. a v6 shouldn't do very well.

i also knew a guy that turned his cobra into a "v6" mustang via emblems/bumpers/hidden exhaust pipes. fooled alot of people that way.
 
So he told me that the PO put in the V8 himself.

He told my friend that its a GT and he just took the emblems off..

Liar. haha

Well the big thing is, this guy lies, about EVERYTHING. Its just that its really hard to catch him in the act of doing it. Its always something we cant actually go forward and look at.

This lie however, is one we can easily catch him in and call him out on it.

Some of his lies include, but are not limited to...

His uncle owns a castle in Greece
His uncle owns a large boat in Charleston, and we are welcome to use it
His dad has tons of money, and works really high up in Wachovia
He is coming back to school in August, even though he never went to class, EVER.
He claims all these girls are interested in him. I dont understand this because he has a girlfriend, who isnt particularly attractive, and shes FREAKING CRAZY (the kind of girl who would try and get pregnant to trap you into a relationship) Why would he be dating her if hes got all these other girls...

We just really want to catch him, for sure, in a lie so we can call him out on it.
