Whats the best way to see if a car has a V8...

Hey mac...I know a few guys like that...I got an idea...
I'm in Hickory...and I got a 289 V8 Mustang...a 1968...perhaps I could show up somewhere he typically is and see if he wants to see my engine...then I'll ask to see his...if he won't...we'll take it to the street

There's a pretty unique device that came out sometime in the 1800's called a MIRROR!:flipoff2: Then someone came up with the idea of putting one on a telescopic pole so you can adjust to your height. I guess a reed pole, a make-up mirror and a piece of bubble gum would suffice if you didn't want to spend the $6.99 at your local parts store.:shaking: Assuming the car is at least a couple inches off the ground.:wheel:
You can put 12 cats on a 6 banger if you got the time and money. About every 6 now days has a fake dual exhaust. I've heard some hopped up 6's but have never heard one that could immitate the purr of an 8.

very true...most of the last model Camaros that were V6 here in HKY had the fake dual exhaust...and sound like crap...

This is easy to solve. Shoot the grill with a BB gun. He will pop the hood to see where the water is coming from.

haha nice!

That might actually work.

I knew a lot of guys like this back in Charlotte/Rock Hill. Except each of them had something underneath there to blow the doors off anything from a dig. None of this "from a roll" BS.

what year mustang? im trying to figure out why he needed to BUY a mustang that had a v8 SWAPPED in. why didnt he just buy a V8 mustang?!?!

i still like the " B piller isnt right" approach. tell him that the structural support of a V8 is different from a V6 and that he car is crap cause one day he is going to stress the frame cause there is no support at the B pillar. No need to find out if he is lying, just make him feel stupid.

Bring your man to Raleigh and we will meet up. I have two cousins, They are into the Mustang thing (brothers). One has a Saleen and the other Mach 1 (new cars) Bring lots of cash also. When his V8 gets owned then it doesnt matter what he says he has, that will shut him up. Also bring his girlfriend so she can watch.:driver: Hes been called out:flipoff2:

If the guy is as much a liar as you say, when he does show whats under there, he will just act frantic and start spouting off about how someone stole his engine and replaced it with a POS 6'er.

Another thought, I don't think I have ever known a guy or gal for that matter that didn't wanna show off his engine.

Yea.. this guy is :gay:. Obviously he has a 6cyl. Just tell em he has a import Peugot engine in there and thats why he doesnt want to show it off, cause its a bastard mustang.

Or just send him this thread and show em we are ready to call em out. What a douche. Sounds like someone i know. The "One Upper" is what we called em. Everything you have is not :poop: compared to what he has. I called my liar friend out on a few things. It does no good, cause he will already have a lie ready to cover up his lie he just got called out on. Its a revolving door of deception.

I'm not accusing the guy of anything by saying this, because I don't know the dude. But having said that I've seen this before, but with sub-woofers. An acquaintance of mine showed up one day with an amazing sounding system in his car, but strangely he wouldn't pop the trunk to show it off. How many big stereo guys do you know who don't want to show off their system? Yeah, zero. At first he just said the install looked like crap and he didn't want us to see it until it was finished. We thought that was strange, but didn't think too much about it because he was a strange guy. Several months go by and he still refuses to pop the trunk when we're around- ever. We started getting really, really suspicious. So one day I was riding with him, and he runs into the convenience store to grab a pack of smokes. While he was gone I popped the trunk latch and found the answer to the big mystery- he had a sub box back there that had been stolen from another friend of mine about six months before that. It was obvious because it was a custom box. Now like I said, I'm not accusing him of anything here, but I have seen this behavior before.

this wouldnt happen to a mid 80's black mustang up in hickory on the weekends would it?

ok. if someone did a v8 swap in a 98 then it'd have to have been the 4.6L unless they got a crate motor. you'd definitely be able to tell if it was a v8 though. v6 sounds more raspy than rumbly. Ask him if it has the 5.0L v8 and see what he says.

furd continued with the 5.0 in the exploders
PHP:
would a 5.0 swap pass inspection on a 98 with a OBDII??
yes, if you got a 5.0 out of a 99 exploder, the engine has to be newer than the vehicle its going in
ask him how many pushrods.
none-mod motor
16-5.0
12-3.8 v6

So - you're suggesting it's a stolen ENGINE? That's a little strange.

And I gotta know, whathappened w/ your oddball buddy? Did you rat him out?

what a douschebag. just pour a quart of oil on the groud of his car and be like "hey you're leaking a lot of oil dude, pop the hood so we can see where its comming from" He should be so worried he won't think about the fact that you'll see his 6cyl

Just pop the hood.. is he keeping you from the latch as well? I mean it cant be too hard. Or just say Prove it..

Even if it is a 4.6 or 90's 5.0, it's still going to be a fawking slow and heavy 98 mustang. Its also obvious he isn't hiding something for the purposes of sandbagging or racing. If that were the case, why not simply say it's a v6.
