FWIW, Ranger Walker told me it wasn't happening as long as she was the Ranger there.

I haven't been able to talk to Deborah indepth about this idea. I heard she just wasn't in favor of doing it, at least not this year. But at the same time I don't doubt she said that.

I need to sit down and talk with her about a couple things actually, and this is still going to be on the list. She wants a vehicle costing in the thousands of dollars to be donated, so I would hope she may change/have an open mind about how money is raised for said vehicle. This idea could be a way to raise the money in one shot if we weren't able to find someone to donate the entire vehicle etc.

I can hope at least I guess, considering there are a good number of others under her in the Forest Service (and in the community) that support the idea.

That is the route I would recommend.

See above. While I appreciate all the effort you put into your position as NC4x4 liaison to Uwharrie National Forest, as I have said before, you need to build a relationship with the people that make the decisions in the forest and that is Ranger Walker and Recreation Specialist Savery!

I suggest you call and schedule an appointment to meet with both of them to discuss your ideas! That is what I have done in the past that has been most beneficial toward opening up lines of communication!

FYI.
the entire point of not wheeling in the winter is due to the trails being wet and could cause more damage to them during that time.

Still?

Tell her to call the DRMS and get one for free

they should get a CUCV through them....

yes and the CUCV plenty capable for most trails. Some even have winches. Thats what the DRMS is there for, utilizing resources for other govt. entities. They just need to follow the procedures and it will all be free...

I'm sure the state of NC has something similar but being the USFS is federal and the military is federal, the process is prob. much easier.

At the work day she said this was not an option, too much red tape. They want a comfortable rig also, a cucv rides ruff and does not fit what they are wanting....imo

:shaking:
Its free, I'd think a little paperwork and sucking it up would be expected.

DRMS even has Jeep Cherokees there. What else are they looking for, an Escalade?

The red tape comes in because if they go that way then it will be as is, no mds can bedone to a vechile.... no they don't want an escalade.

Sounds like they don't want to have to do the paper work. They want someone to do all the work and all the time to build them a ride.I like the idea of them riding with someone HELL someone can ride with me.

Yeah, refer to post/reply #19 in this thread. Just a little ways above your reply I quoted.

In the arguement that one day of wheeling would damage the trails in the off-season, it would do no more damage than the off-season work days, the one week of having a contractor out there, and there other trail inventory trips the FS makes during the off-season do.

But it all boils down to what kind of feedback/reasoning I get from Deborah. I just know its an easy way to raise money for such things as the patrol vehicle they want.

i don't really see how riding rough would be any kind of issue? i mean...it's a trail truck...for URE..rough is fine. and i still don't see how that's too much redtape...when they could most likely get it for free...it'd be super reliable...and there'd be NO chance of them breaking it on the trail if they're just patrolling......that and it'd not even need any mods to be ready to go. just sounds like they want to take the easy way out.

don't get my wrong, i'm not bad mouthing them...i'll be planning on attending every work day even, but I just think someone needs to explain to them how perfect a CUCV would be for this application.

i kinda feel like voting for a price is not in our benefit but i will say

its a good idea, 400% regular wheeling price seems fair to me i'd not bitch about 25 dollars

i would pay 35-50 and bitch a lot...

but i would pay it.

all for some uwharrie snow wheelin

Maybe I will bring the M1008 to the march workday to give them an idea what to expect. Its bone stock, wouldn't do daniel with it, but should have no problem with the rest.

Figure we can load up whatever we need that way, run 109 the whole way so won't need to get over 60 mph.
