Windrock accident

You haven't lived until you have that in the background, sitting around Boat Ramp at Chocco, and a crowd of locals ride by...
Or Harlan with a rubber dick hanging off your bumper

I’ll disagree with this. If someone dies from a traumatic injury someone, somewhere did something wrong.

That’s kind of absurd. My buddy was in Harlan last week cruising down an easy trail, not going very fast. His steering broke and caused him to turn into the bank and flip. If that happened in the wrong place it could have been fatal. Luckily it was a slow flop.

Anything could happen that could be a freak accident, not always someone at fault.

That being said, most accidents are just that, an “accident” meaning it was preventable.

One of the guys that we will with works with a close family friend of the group and was behind them when it happened. So take it with a grain of salt this is 3rd or 4th person.
What he said is the front dropped into a washed out rut when it came up and out it jerked hard one direction and they didn’t have time to correct. He thought they might have been going 10mph. He thought something broke when it came out or it jerked the wheel out of his hands

Not too long ago a guy died at Harlan when he had something break on his front track bar or steering. Lost steering control, wasn’t going fast.

Either him, or one of his close friends was active here.

The details are fuzzy in my mind by now, but that was the jist of it.

I believe I recall that story. Dudes wife drove to the store, said it didn’t feel right so they switched for the drive back. Track bar let go on a gravel road causing them to go over the edge. He died, and she was pregnant and her and the baby lived. (Early I’m in pregnancy)

Sound about right?

Good example, neither did anything “wrong” there. It was just a freak accident.

Gabe Gardner.
I knew him, met him a few times.
Chris May, who used to be actie here but I havent seen in a while was close friends with him. I dont remember all the details but they were staying in Putney, group left from trail to go back to camp. Gabe and Heather went to Evarts to get something and were coming back on the center gravel road. Heather got out the drivers seat because steering felt funny. IIRC the panhrad bar had ripped nearly completely off. When it tore the rest of the way all steering was lost. At low speeds it slipped off a trail and rolled a couple times down the mountain.

I was still involve in ECORS when this happened, that makes it 2012-13 ish so...not long ago just 6-7 years or so

I believe he wasn't wearing a seat belt maybe?

So mechanical failures never happen? No uncontrollable or unforeseen accidents ever?

That is correct.
As the story goes he was wearing it in the passenger side. Didnt put it back on when he and wife switched or maybe after he got out and checked steering or something...she was wearing hers he wasnt. Died from internal injuries when jeep rolled on him.

Mechanical failures are “generally” a failure of maintenance. “Uncontrollable” accidents are *generally* preventable.

I’ve seen a number of deaths from traumatic injuries, I work in EMS. Every death I have seen has been preventable.

I’m not saying that it is always the victim’s fault. I’m just saying that *someone* *somewhere* along the line F’ed up.

Your earlier reply that was quoting my comment did exactly that. My comment was saying that it is wrong to assume wrong doing on the part of the victim, and you now just said that its not always the victims fault, but you originally commented saying that you disagree with what I said. I am very confused right now. Maybe its because I didnt spell it out exactly that the wrong doing I was referring to was on the part of the victim, but considering the context of this whole thread has been about the victims, I didnt feel the need to.

What is it with dumpster fires around here lately?
Its hot a fuck and hasnt rained in weeks. Pretty sure my gravel driveway will be magma when I get home.

I disagree. Pushing a vehicle to it's limits, parts break. I've seen Rockwells snap. Sometimes physics take over and your just along for the ride.

I disagree again. I've been in FD for 20+ years. I've seen cars burnt to a crisp with bodies still belted in, people that fell from standing position and hit their head and die and probably 20 more examples. Yes i do see deaths that were preventable, but for some it was just their time.

I guess their all MOSTLY preventable if you stay home on your couch.
