So we're going to Windrock in less than two weeks snd I've been trying to hammer down what trails to hit. Looking for input on what to hit. Most of our rigs are locked on both ends and on 35s. So far the only definitive ones are 15 and 21. The map on the website blows but it look like we could run 22-21-21a-15? Or are we better to ride 21 out to the open area and hit the main road back to 15?

I wouldn't mind hitting little mule but there's no way not to hit little school bus and it's probably a little much for our group and don't really wanna be slinging cable all day. However last time we were there was 3 years ago.

Also looking at hitting Cadillac Hill but I doubt we'll have time if we hit 21 and 15.

Go straight to the Rattle Rock trail at midnight and magic will happen.

Trust me!

I think that @upnover is going with ya'll and he knows the park well. Maybe he should chime in...
Because i'm a train wreck of devastation on the way to Hell ya know.

I was watching video of Rattle Rock earlier, pretty sure my tires are a little too small for it. One day I'll run it, just not this time.

21 is for the most part, a gravel road, with a couple small obstacles. Mostly, just driving around. 22 is a fun trail, degree of difficulty great increased when it's wet, but is doable with 35's and locked. Maybe a winch point or three.
15 is one of my fav trails, short, but some off camber/V notches that can make ya pucker, but I hadn't seen any go over there myself. The exit is a place where ya have to bump it a time or two..
38 isn't too very long, but it's challenging/technical possible winching, a great place for having good spotters.
Rail trail is another one of my fav trails, but, may be more than this group wants. IT's a long trail, and doable, but you can't be skeered to partner up with Mr Warn.
And there is trail 23, Atomic Ridge. But I doubt there isn't anyone in CTB that hasn't heard the tale of the last ride on that one.

For the most part, I will follow you guys where ever you wanna go, I'm along for the ride!

I know what you mean. Rain will make a lot of trails a trial for the winches.

I've heard the tail of 23 Atomic Ridge, pretty sure if I said were riding that I be vetoed in a heart beat.

Looks like rain all damn week before we go, damn I am tired of rain

Yeah I'm hoping it'll stay dry, if not at least "Watson Tacky" that way we can have some traction.

There first week in december and we had snow all week. Everything was greasy

A great day is as follows:
leave parking area and go up hill, turn left on 15, run to the end, go straight across and play on the lower part of Rattlerock. Continue on up Little School Bus to the end. Hang a left and go run Stair Steps. At the top, go straight across to 3 and run it through the creek and up through the dried up creek bed. This will dump you back on the main road.
If you're feeling really froggy, you are close to the entrance to Rail Trail at that point. Run RT to Cadillac Hill and take 40 back up to 3.

*Rail Trail is a long and very difficult trail. Give yourself plenty of time!*

You can also tale 21/22 to Little Mule and then dump out across from the entrance to Rattle Rock.

Was watching video of Stair Steps and that looks doable by some of us, if not looked like there was a bypass if not. I have a feeling @Nakoma plan from Harlan will hold true for this trip again.

There is a by pass. Basically go around to the top instead of over to the bottom. It's a doable obstacle with multiple lines.

BTW, it's not steep or anything

I'm bringin the boat....if you don't come for a ride, you're a big sissy!

That's backwards. 22 is the easy trail that leads to (past) 21.

look into running up to Careyville flats. You take hard roads, then hit the trails, then hwy 75 back...I believe the numbers are 51,52, 73?? - I'll have to look at my trail map....It's a good, long day...

Don't know your route there(77-81-40 maybe??) but I'm about 15 mins off 81 in TN,if anybody has trouble and needs a place to park a truck or trailer for a few days.Im about two hours from WR.

That is a debate that could use a little input, really just for discussions sake. From the Triad area, we could take 40W as a straight shot. For an extra 10 minutes we could do 52/77/81. I know that if there is a wreck or anything in the gorge on 40 you’re stuck there with no way out for many hours vs the other way we have exits and alternative routes. I realize you take the risk of a traffic jam either route. Any other input from people in our area?

With 77-81-40 the biggest thing that comes to mind is the mnt at fancy gap where as you’ll have black mountain and the gorge the other way.For me I’d pull the mnt at fancy gap and be done.If you take 40 all the way I’m a little farther away but still kinda handy If needed.

Check your weather. That'll be the biggest factor. If it's clear, navigating the gorge is no big deal. It's a little tight in spots because of the big rigs but nothing I'd shy away from.

Right now my biggest issue is how rough 40 is approaching Old Fort and Black Mountain. Unless they have paved recently, it was all ground down to coaurse bumpy concrete the last time I went that way.
