Would you do this for a rare vehicle?

I would have left it. I'm not a tree hugger but the value of the trees cut down may be greater than the value of the bus. Of course I don't have a helicopter to pick up my parts. Thanks for the view.

unless someone donated the helo time ( not cheap ) I don't see that what they went thru was worth what they got.

I've seen some crazy stuff restored, a lot of WFT were you thinking projects, but I think this was kinda over the top.

there wasn't a whole lot of that van left, I don't see it worth the effort.

Here is a Idea what that bus could be worth

Defiantely an interesting way to collect a project. But like others said, that thing wasnt worth the gas for the helicopter. I can understand a 54 barndoor is rare, but is it really that rare in Germany? Wouldnt that be like a Ford F100 over there, just a dime a dozen. I was waiting for the hulk to crumble on the ride off the mountain on the trailer.

COULD be worth......

the van you show may have been rebuilt to some degree, but I'd bet there was a lot more of it to start off with, and probably a roller /driver.

the amount of work to restore, hell just to make a roller of the one in the video, will way out price anything you'd recoup by resale. factoring in time and materials, and the amount of vehicle not there, you could never sell it as a true resto, maybe a resto mod, or a custom, unless you were able track down every year specific part. and to make it worth anything, they wouldhave to original parts, not reproductions.

just cuz you can make it look like the original, doesn't make it worth it.

Out behind the museum of Life and Science in Durham, there is what appears to be a 1957 chevy back up in the woods. It's actually down in a little valley, but back in the woods aways, you can just barely see it from the trail.I have always though it would be cool to get it out and try to fix it.It'd take a helicopter or a crane for sure though.

I've rescued a few FJ40's in my day, and chainsaws were involved. Between myself and one other person,we've probably saved at least 30 of them years ago. And some of them belong to some of the members on this board!

where's that at? I've been there many times and never noticed it

thats crazy but it is a rare VW. A lot of work mind you and wonder if he restored it to original or changed a few things up.
I like buses.
I'm with bruiser. Buses are cool and not just for hippies.

If you go down where the wind ride is and continue going towards the wolf exhibit, before you get to the wolf exhibit. It's when you first go into the woods on your way towards the wolves, down in that little gully on the right.I probably wouldn't have noticed it either except my son decided to play on the rocks around the tube that goes under the road right there. He almost fell and I was standing there looking down the rocks, that's when I saw it.

i'll buy you a wrist guard to keep them from going limp, but if you actually drive the bus...ain't nothing gonna help ya:gay:

wow some people really are ignorant..
