WTF Google

I'll give credit where credit is due. I got another update in the past hour, and I like it. The Chrome tabs display has changed and is now separate windows where you can actually see what is in the window instead of just the top snippet of the window.

This is a definite improvement.

How many screens did you have to close before you could screenshot that for us? :)

I have a friend who sued to work for Google (alphabet) - well friend isnt the right word. He was a roomate in college that I didnt like then but we stay in touch still because....I dont know why. Mainly he is a pretentious asshole living in Commiefornia and likes to tell everyone back east how successful he is. (and dudes separation from Alphabet was 10 figures. He did well) - But while I dont like him very much I do value intelligent conversation and he always brings that.

Anyway....we talked back around Christmas and got into a short conversation about Google, web interfaces and counter intuitive design. He said something that I would have probably never thought of but makes all the sense in the world when you think about it.

For - well really ever - the goal of people designing HMIs is to make them intuitive, to make you use it without really thinking. When you stop and realize that Google is at its core a gigantic marketing agency, it makes sense then to relaize that UI re-designs to them are actually most beneficial when they are completely un user friendly. If you dont immediately know where to click and you have to look all over the place to find where to click, you are forced to see all their force fed content.

Nothing changes, or at least comes around again. That's how the Yellow Pages were designed too. ;-)

So now Google is f'n around again. Over the past few updates, they have completely disabled ribbon browsing and you can't turn the new way off. Also, now I can't just open a link in a new tab, I can only "Open in new tab group" :kaioken:

Plus the buttons along the bottom now have stupid looking Grey tone theme where you can't see them well anymore. While I don't really need to see them, the Grey tone crap is stupid.

I started the search for a new browser this morning. It just sucks because everything works well with Chrome and it has all my saved passwords and cards and integrates with all the other Google stuff so they can spy best on me.
