im bout to rip my hair out try to decide should i do waggy d44s or go full width. after my flop in mtn city, im really wanting to go wider to help stability. if i am reading right the d44s from waggys are two inchs wider than my axles now, then if i run a deeper offset wheel that should give me my width i want right? or should i just bite the bullet and try to find some full with axles and go from there. i know there are alot of nice rigs around here in nc and im just lookin for alittle input.

Heres one with a full width hp44/9" from a f150. I think it is just right IMO.

And heres the build thread.

i have a full width nine inch now but the only thing i dont have is the brakes , i could gear it and put a spool in it. and find a d44 front. what car can i get discs for it or just go back drums?

You can get the bolt on and weld on brackets from lots of places...ruffstuff,sky's offroad,BTF,and I think a few guy's on the board that mak'em. The brackets I had on my 14 Bolt used Chevy 1/2 ton calipers and front rotors. I didn't have a e-brake so if you need one of those Caddy rear calipers work.

You will have to do some research but the explorer rear disc brakes are a bolt on for some of the 9" rears. I dont remember the specifics but one of the guys I used to wheel with in Ca. put a set on his desert truck and they bolted right up.

well im swaying to the full width swap , i pulled my nine in out. lol anyway. when i first got it i called currie about building it, they asked if it was a small or big bearing 9, hell i dont know how do i tell??

what was the 9" out of?

if it was an early bronco axle then it could be either smal or big bearing..

if a F-150 then it should be big bearing.. very few had small bearings in the f-150's

I got a built d44 and 9 inch. If you wanna buy it.

ok as far as i can tell , i have a standard case , and a big bearing axle. im gonna have to count the teeth to see what gear i have. heres some pics and if im wrong please tell me.

to go along with the axle swap im wanting to stretch the back of the xj with a leaf spring swap. i saw on another site where a guy used 1/2 ton suburban 8 inch leafs and removed 2 to get the ride height he wanted. i looked on line and as far as i can tell all chevy 1/2 tons rear leafs were the same from 73-91. please correct me if im wrong and steer me in the right direction.

I swapped a set of Trail-Gear 5" springs in the back of a XJ about a month ago when we swapped in some full widths. They are a great spring the rear of it. I relocated the hanger and it works great. We still need to trim alittle out of the rear to fit the 40s. Ill try to post a picture or 2 up.

dont know about from year to year. But the springs are different from long bed to short bed and my half ton suburban had much larger spring than any half ton truck ive ever seen.

Front 44

I have a full width HP Dana 44 plus a radius arm set up for an F150 that will give you long arms and an HP Dana 44 to go with a full width 9".

Some of the stuff is on "for sale" forum. Not a hard swap.
