Hey, I got a friend in IRAQ and before he left he planned on installing a lift kit on his new XJ (2001)

I bought him tires and the lift and plan on installing it this weekend and send him a picture as a suprise and just wanted to know if there are any supprises I should be worried about?

How high is the lift? If its a 3" kit with new coils and rear add a leafs, the only problem you may run into is the stock ubolts for the rear being barely long enough, that is if longer ones werent supplied. Me and my dad installed a 3" lift on my cherokee a couple of years ago, it took the better part of the day but you shouldnt have any major problems.

The only biatch is the bolts for the leaf springs. They tend to fuse themselves to the mounts. Other than that, general lift kits are pretty straight forward to install.

One more tip, watch the upper shock mount bolts. They are low grade and the heads tend to snap off. Its a good idea to spray give everything a good spray of PB blaster for a couple days before the install, especially if you dont have air tools.

I was curious as to if you got it done or not too. If not give me a shout and if I am close I can give you a hand. You may need the yj style yoke to avoid drive shaft contact if you don't have a SYE. I have lifted my XJ twice. You know lift, not high enough, lift again. It's still not big enough yet but I am pretty happy with it. Well like I said if your around J-ville I can give you a hand. You can do this lift in a very short period of time. Probably in a couple hours. Let me know

I just did mine, 3 inch homebrew rear leaf packs (combined an S-10 pack and the XJ pack) and a set of used Rusty's 3 inch front leaves.

As said the biggest headache is the spring mounting bolts for the rear leaves, go slwo and easy and the should come out, worst case you will break the weldnuts inside the frame loose, if so you have to cut into the unibody frame to get to them.

If you have to cut a bolt or two let me know, I have some spares.
