I helped my parents clean out some stuff a couple weeks ago, and they had a lot of yard tools all shoved in a rollout trashcan so it was almost impossible to get anything out. I laid it all out and washed it up and culled some junk and duplicates.

So being a somewhat introspective person, I figured it wasn't fair to judge them without also judging myself...

Hmm, yeah, I might need to get my head checked...

Anyway, after going through it all, I culled about a dozen shovels/picks/etc, but now I need to find a good way to organize it. It has just been shoved in a closet under the deck, sitting on the ground, spilling over. Any clever ideas or good advice?

I bought 2 of these

It helped me out a ton. All my stuff was set on the ground leaned against the wall. They could be better, but that's mostly because i have too much shit on them.

Now I know where that Great Shovel Shortage of '22 came from.

I have thsi same thing. Love it.
Best part is that the dog goes apeshit when I bang on the walls getting tools off and putting them back.

I did something simpler and after to store bought deal in the old smoke house......read failing down log structure.
I just put old framing nail where I needed them and hang as they fit.
Poor man vs would be a 2 by 4 screwed across some studs and them lag bolt spaced like my nails. Maybe a random hook or two for odd stuff.
The older I get function rules over Martha Stewart level house gadgets.

I had nails spaced to hold all my stuff at the last house. I can't say it's 100% better, but it's cleaner for sure.

I use one of these for four shovels, I just nest them. Look up "crawford hanger holder". I built my shed doors tall enough and sturdy enough that I hang a lot of tools on the doors so they do not use up wall space in the shed.

What's dis?

Looks like an SL500

Close, 96 SL320. I always wished it was a 500, especially when I got to drive it back in high school. Build quality on this car is rock solid though. Before they cheaped em up.
My Godparents had a black 95 SL320 that I got to use on the first date with my wife. Pretty sure it was the car 🤘🏿
I took wished it had the bigger motor because everything else on that car was flawless

Mom had an '88 SL 500 for several years, got it when I was a senior in HS as a "He's gone" present to herself. Wouldn't let me drive it until I was ~20. Once i did I knew why. Man what a fun car that was. Heartbroken when she sold it... they specifically didn't tell me or give me the option to buy it from them "...because you already have too many cars and we're concerned about your marriage."

[under breath mumble] Stupid parents doing responsible things.

You don't have enough hard rakes or pitchforks.

Great minds think alike. I also have my yard tools shoved handle down in a 55 gallon trash can in the corner of the shed. Works perfect

The best I've found for straight handled tools has been a poly 55gal drum filled with smaller tubes (25-30ea. 3" window tint rolls?)... threw the D-handled things away
Maybe it's because I'm short, but I love tools with a D handle. Easier to control and lean into, and not extra hanging out of a wheelbarrow or putting them in a beach bag to build rockcrawler courses.

Snapped a pic of my overloaded rack today. They really work better using every other hook.

I count 23 pcs. I have 30, so not too far off. Hmm. Triple or quad stack a few duplicate shovels/axes/rakes, and I might have something workable.

That's similar to what I'm putting together. Using a shipping crate thats about 30x42, with a bunch of 2" scrap PVC tubes inside. One end will be boxed off for the d-handle and other odd stuff. Crate has fork slots so I can pick the whole thing up with the forks on the tractor so if I wanted to grab more than a couple of shovels and a rake, I can take the whole thing up to where I am working.

This is another of those " As God and Grandpa intended" items.
A wood wall and a handful of appropriately spaced 60d nails.

You don't have enough hard rakes
They're just nervous. Once they relax from a long day of work they'll firm right up

For the OP- my redneck self has always just used a 2x4 Tapcon'd to the wall with nails xx" apart and holes on the end of the handles. Where the rakes go, I alternate top to bottom to maximize space.
