Set it to the parent metal thickness then.....
I think it forces you to adjust your travel so you get a good weld. Lol.
Im not a welder but I pretend to be sometimes. It is really a general average setting of which the manufacturer thinks the best feed and amps are for the the material being welded together. Assuming they are the same thickness.

Of course I could totally be off base too.

Nothing groundbreaking, but it used to only be a Miller thing

I had an everlasting 140e with 2 knobs that had no markings and I’d go back and forth 10 times before cranking it up and saying f it

Oh so you do set the feed rate also? So there really are at least 2 knobs on the machine?

2 knobs, but in the “synergetic mode” you only adjust the wire speed and the machine sets the amps automatically. In manual mode you set both manually

I've been interested in the "smart mig" tech that came out a few years ago. I guess this is kind of like that?
