Drop it to $300-400 and I'm down. Not sure who would be my partner but it sounds fun.

I'll be your partner.
I'm a dickhead too so it'll add that extra flavor of competition.

I remember back to early 2008 when the vehicle requirements were posted for the individual classes in the first race in UNF. One hundred dollar pay in for A class rigs. Course I signed up to run as it was supposed to be for stock rigs. Anywho, the amount of bickering as to what could be done to a vehicle and still be class A was just mind boggling for a 100 dollar pay in. Nellie Belle and myself became non competitive when cut up junkers could be run. I'd hate to be in the middle of that bullshit with a 1500 dollar entrance fee. They better have the vehicle and gear requirements set in stone BEFORE they start taking monies in.

Should say #areyourichenough, I know a guy on a trailblazer forum that went on the ultimate adventure, I don't believe it cost a thing and he was givin new wheels and tires, even a new warn winch. He couldn't have stickers that were not sponsors but was not required to put sponsors stickers on rig. It's harder to get on UA but it was clear from the start what was expected and what was offered.

I called Scott to get more info. From what he said, it didn't sound like a lot of it would be on the national forest land (which makes sense because trails might become clogged, etc). He said that he had lined up like, 3 or 4 big properties that would hold the event. About 80% was wheeling/navigation, 10% was shotgun shooting (skeet I think?), and 10% was canoeing. Pretty much the awesome.

The $1500 was a deal breaker for me, unfortunately since I think I could be competitive. I discussed it with my girlfriend and she said, "How about we take the $1500 and your three days of vacation and go rent a house on the beach and do that instead." I concur with her assessment. $1500 is a lot of money to prepare a vehicle and then go potentially destroy it.

This story would have been better if it ended with " so I told her how about you don't worry about what I spend my money on, if you want to go to the beach break out your wallet".
:)

I'm with him on this one!! I'm going to use three days of my vacation and $1500 to take his girlfriend to the beach!!

This sounds like more of a competition rather than a race. It will be more important to just have a good reliable trail rig rather than a beater racer.

What he said. I'd bet real money there wont be any high (ish) speed driving taking place anywhere. Its more like drive to this location, complete a challenge, drive to next location, complete a challenge, shampoo, rinse, repeat.

I'm betting it will have a TSD course and waypoints to locate worth points, etc depending on difficulty, etc

I'm just speculating based on the press release and what I know of the triathlons they did in FL.

I'm betting a Landrover will win

the award for most stickers.
I'm betting there will b a lot of bickering and back and forth about "This vehicle is better than that one", but it won't make a damn bit of difference.

Nah, the press release said you couldn't run non-sponsor steekers.

Those poor guys have a lot of long nights with straight razors ahead of them.

Go ahead. Then she will stop bugging me about it.

But yeah. Low speed. Probably some guy with a mildly built JK will win. Not because it'll be technically difficult. But because its new and won't break down.

How about we just go to URE and ride real fast for around 6 hrs....for free!!!......in the rain (actual challenge ).......this Sat!!!!....:flipoff2:

I miss the good old days when a rainy sat brought out all the rigs and we wheeled all night and watched "stump" break his rig!!!

Almost but no cigar. It will be a 4 door Tacoma w a factory locker on 35ish tires.
