Lots of interesting news today

Dude is a combat vet. 1 tour to AFG. Has numerous warrants for petty shit up to domestic disturbance. From people I know that know him, what I gather is:
A former soldier reported him as having mental instability issues (read:red flag trigger) and the cops tried to verify shit through his wife (read: disgruntled twat waffle) with which he is separated. She reported him as having weapons and magazines.
Numerous different reports flying about why the cops showed up initially to include warrants, suspected shots fired, red flag, etc. Stand off ensued. Police tried to flex and the boogaloo crowd flexed back. Standoff ended peacefully but he is still in trouble for other shit.

bullshit in the highest order on both sides.

I’m there with ya. My blood pressure was rising reading some of the stuff on reddit. I don’t think New York is gonna be the best place to make a stand for the second amendment.
I hear there are some counties Va that are setting up 2A sanctuaries. At least the LEOs will be on the citizens side. NY and CA are behind enemy lines as far as I’m concerned.

You guys have to remember that there is a massive difference between rural NY and urban NY. Rural NY is very much like rural NC or VA in that 95% of people want to just be left alone and are big believers of self sufficiency, 2a, etc. That tends to go for the local LEOs as well.
We have the same thing here in MD. While the majority of what you see and hear in the press is driven by Baltimore and Annapolis, Once you get north and west of there it's a lot more... reasonable and way less "red".

More social media meme news...but the more I’m reading, the more I’m thinking we’ll get as much insight as the vegas shooter or Epstein’s suiciding. 4chan was even going as far as saying social media accounts were being hacked/deleted to prevent and live updates.

No doubt.
I'm no fan of the law, but it's worth noting that was over a year ago, and some details of how that went down are missing. Here's something more recent
‘You’re not taking that!’ Family turmoil preceded fatal police shooting in Maryland’s only red flag death
What matters is that in large part he was killed because of his resistance to a lawful order, including grabbing a gun in front of a cop. Note also the events that led up to the confiscation. I'm not a fan of anyone having their 2A rights removed but the situation sounds like it at least warranted some serious concern.

Bunch of try-hards who’ve done nothing but watch shooting drills on social media and bought some tactical gear wanting some shit to pop off are gonna get some people killed. That annoys the hell out of me, especially when homie is over here crying wolf when his firearms were taken a week before the incident 2 days ago even happened. Personally I wouldn’t put it past a dumbass to do something stupid and cry wolf playing the victim to try and get out of some shit. Hell I’ve got a guy I was in the military with that got into a bunch of trouble and is now all anti government. Then the dumbasses hyping up the situation not realizing it you’ve got a barricaded in dude, the SWAT team and negotiators get called in as SOP.

I’ve got a lot of LE friends I’ve reached out to on this red flag law crap. They have all told me they do presume the person gettin the emergency protective order is in the wrong, but they do an on the spot interview to get some more info on the situation. You start acting like a dumb ass saying you know your rights and being irrational, it’s more reason for them to take them because you’re not int the right state of mind.

This part makes me cringe, if for nothing else, the precedent of eroding civil liberties and the slippery slope it becomes. I really don't feel like an argument because I'm just a Marxist that can't see the forest through the trees, but giving the government the right to take something you own because someone tattled, just makes me feel icky. I understand the logic behind rational enforcement and it sounds good on paper, but it's not something I just want to give away.

How many officers are veterans? A bunch. How many believe whole heartedly in the 2nd amendment? A shit ton. You can’t sit there and be like F the police and them not look at you as an irrational person. I’ve had so many of my LE friends been like yeah we ain’t taking anyone gun unless they are dumbasses. And I’m a fan of stay strapped or get clapped, but so many of these “libertarians” don’t realize they aren’t Rambo, and they have no tactical experience what so ever but want to comment on stuff as if they are a d-boy.

Basically context is everything and they have no tactical patience to develop a situation and wanna rush in guns blazing. I ain’t bleeding unless it’s worth it.

We have a basic right in this country of innocent until proven guilty and the right to be present and face your accused.

These red flag laws just like the no fly lists completely bypass all that. You are guilty and have to prove you are innocent.

If they showed up to take mine damn right I would be pissed and I would fight. Unfortunately the tree of in independence has to be refreshed periodically with the blood of tyrants and patriots.

The biggest thing is never give anyone a reason to come take your shit, don’t post about what you have or what you do with it. Keep your shit private and maintain your own personal security... see again people who don’t have any idea wtf they are doing being all over social media with their bullshit because they like them feel good feelings. You’re better off to observe and understand a situation then fly off at the handle and get the cops called on you. I ain’t bleeding for some jackass running his mouth on social media causing a shit storm. Had a fucking knife on a plate carrier with no mag pouches... if you can’t see that’s bullshit we can’t even have this conversation

I stay off social media but people know I have guns. One liberal can call the sheriff and say I am depressed and a danger and they come knocking in red flags states. That is unconstitutional period.

Look at what a liberal tried to do to my business cause they were scared for their kids cause I have a ffl. Search carolina smoke and guns on ABC 11 website.

You're selling/manufacturing machine guns that fire 30 clips a second in a neighborhood with innocent little cherubs who are in fear for their little lives. You should be punished...let's call the media

Keeping a low profile is key......... running a gun shop out of your house isn’t really low profile.....just saying not trying to wiz in your cornflakes.

Regarding your first paragraph, that's not exactly how it works. There is a shaky level of judicial review. And additionally, that's kinda always how it has worked if people are willing to lie. Look at all the "swatting" scenarios (several of which have led to innocent people being killed). Any of your neighbors could call 911 and say they heard a domestic dispute and then shots fired, and the LEOs will show up ready to kill you.

Regarding your second paragraph, the fact that they tried and failed IN DURHAM actually is a (rare) example of the government working how it should.

I'm generally opposed to this too, but I prefer facts to fear mongering.

No. No, they can't.
Read the article I posted.
There is a whole lot of misconception about how the red flag law works, and how it can be enacted.
They can't even accept the application unless it coes from a very specific subset of people. Namely, your family. It can't be some random liberal. It can't be a nosy neighbor. It can't be a disgruntled former employer. Etc etc.
And even then, that is just the application. There is then a review process with a magistrate to decide if it is a warranted concern, where it has to be determined there is a demonstrable likelihood of danger. So then only a portion of the applications are actually acted on.

By the way - the constitutional right to "face your accuser" is only is a criminal trial case.

bingo

Getting an IVC on someone is actually a bit easier than you think. I’m pretty sure I could get anyone on this board a psych eval at the hospital involuntarily.

I back the police, until they break their oath. I know a lot of good cops that would be on the right side, but I also know a lot who would love to go in guns blazing.
