Gas Super Duty's to avoid

neither does Ram...they are both Fiats...

Agreed the FPT 3.0 has been pretty relaible ;)
IDK what that is.... on a side note. I looked the at a couple for sale sites to see what was out there. So apparently a Green 4x4 gas F250 is a rare bird.....

ECO diesel 1500

Ahhh.. How long have you had it? I read they were having DPF issues about 80K miles.
Dont and wont.
Dont like the wrapper they put it in. Same reason I worked for CMI for 15 years while driving Chevys, Fords, Toyotas, and GMs...even a Mercedes and Nissan

I know nothing about them...it was a joke from me.

Thought FPTs larger diesels like their 6.7 and 8.7 are pretty stout reliable engines...so not sure whats up with the 3.0

I've been watching this thread because I'm also in the market for a gas super duty. Preferably 2011 and up models. I went to kernersville and greensboro to look at a couple today. Looks like 90% of these trucks come from Texas as used maintenance vehicles. The ones that haven't been cleaned up yet and pretty damn dirty inside and out. Some have ranch hand bumpers and headache racks on them. There are a couple more in raleigh I may go take a look at tomorrow. If they have been kept up on maintenance which I think they have, I think they will be ok. But some of them are a little more rough than I'm comfortable with as a DD/work truck that I'm going to be using it as. Anybody have any experience with these trucks from Texas?

A buddy of mine bought a F250 from Texas a few years back. It was a fleet vehicle. Ranch hand bumper, headache rack, weird storage mounts in the bed, and pretty dirty, you could tell it was used. Had it delivered to his front door pretty much for an extra $1k. Had a professional detail it for like $200. It looked brand new. Drove it for a bit and changed fluids and sent them off for analysis, nothing weird going on. 3 years and 150k miles later he sold it. Only thing he did was a caliper, battery, and something else, I THINK it was an idler pulley. Nothing major and it never left him stranded. It had ~290k when he sold it.

When my buddy was looking for a Duramax, we looked around a bunch of used trucks lots around Raleigh. 99% of them were total shit. One lot had a bunch of trucks from Texas after that big ass hurricane. The stickers said Dallas on them. The interiors smelled damp, they got the spray can treatment, and a lot of them had terribly repainted body panels. Lots of FLA in the paint. It was bad and I called every bit of it out to the saleman. So just be careful and know what you're looking at.

Not here to defend the 5.4 3v too much, but if you do the Cam Phaser/Timing job and upgrade the oil pump, you can drive it into the ground and it will not care. However, its a gas burner V8 and it runs off 5.4 time, not your time. So its still not going to haul the mail in a hurry, but it will do it. 08-10 is the only 5.4 option in my opinion since it has the most update configuration. Plugs, aluminum heads, rocker arms, etc. Just needs regular oil changes and it will make it happen. I’ve been impressed with my 2010 F250 5.4 over the past few years.

But...still wish I had something else when I’m at 4500 rpm with 8 screaming squirrels under the hood going 45mph charging up the smokeys.

Aye, good times!
My buddy had a 2000-ish ECLB F-250 "Banks poster child" (*everything* they made for it) V-10... going from Clayton, GA over to Blairsville dragging a huge 40' equipment deck-over with 2 Jeeps (15k#-18k#).
Riding bitch when that pig kicked down to 1st at 35mph made me cringe every time! Kept envisioning the the TC fragging and sending the parts straight up into my arse, so moved to the backseat at the first fuel stop... 4.3mpg 🤣

Totally get that feeling. I remember my first 1st gear drop and gripping the steering wheel so tight hoping she holds it together all the way over mountain in Franklin. Comes with the territory I guess. Will make a diesel that much more worth one day.

So every so often I go search just for giggles. Of course this time it hit....

I actually looked at the truck for a minute the other day. It's the dark green, damn good looking truck. I didn't look at it long because it was out of my price range. I did however look at a silver extended cab they had. It's was also a good looking truck, bit the carfax said it was in a wreck that cause frame damage or something. I noticed all the front bumper brackets looked new, that's why I looked up the carfax on it. I asked the sales guy if it had ever been in a wreck and he said he didn't know. So I decided to walk away from it. They also had a white crew cab but I think it was setup for natural gas.

Is the 109k miles and lack of 21st century standard car equipment worth the cost difference between this and a brand new Xl with more features?

I might seriously be out of touch with reality, but I have a hard time believing a 5 year old truck with 110,000 miles is worth $30,000. That is a big reason I'm still driving a 20 year old truck though.

Every new truck I’ve found are Lariat and Platinum and 6.7 diesel and $60k. They don’t offer Green. I really like that green.

Yes why I’m here asking if it over priced. I think because it’s gas it’s about 10k too much.
