Lots of interesting news today

or derrrm or rocky mount etc.

Its like 'they' want it to happen.

"According to court records, Stokes was previously arrested with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon in Franklin County in 2011. He was convicted two years later in 2013 but did not serve any prison time. Stokes is not legally allowed to own a gun after being charged with several felonies in 1994 related to possessing and distributing drugs."

and

"Stokes had a court appearance on Thursday morning, posted bond and was released."

So a known criminal, unlawfully possessing a handgun, tries to kill someone else with said gun, and is allowed to walk out of court.
Those gun laws sure are working.

Guess we asked for it?

why do we bother having trials when obviously you're guilty and should be in jail immediately. Who needs rights?

Levels of discretion and we don't know the whole story and blah blah blah but there's a misdemeanor version of assault with a deadly weapon?

even for felonies there's often the option of bail.

Sure there is. Never said don't offer bail.

Make it 10 million. or 20 million.
Because only rich people are entitled to not sit in jail waiting to prove their innocence?

I get it. I get it. Common sense and vid evidence and all that are of no consequence. Out the window. Sure hope the next person this known felon hurts or kills isn't someone you care about.

This is huge

That is huge! But survivors will, at least at first, be in for a lifetime of disability, It doesn't sound like something they'll outgrow.... Imagine a teenager who doesn't wake up when they stop breathing!

I'm rather surprised the settled, I'd think an appeal would have a good chance.
Agreed. Sounds like the prosecution is claiming that the signpost was placed in a crash zone and hitting that is what paralyzed him. But what if it had been a tree or a rock? Likely one of those situations where everyone knows what the truth is, but there's enough gray area that its not worth the lawyer fees to keep fighting.
