Pulling well pump

I can see that helping in a bored/dug well where the pump maybe working partially above the water level at times, But in a drilled well where the pump is set below the water level I can't see it helping at all...

They're common when folks use well pumps in tanks, not really in Wells though. In a regular 6" well, the water is coming up and around the motor to get to the impeller and that keeps the motor cool. In tanks, the motor doesnt get any flow around it because the water is being pulled from the sides of the impeller entrances and not up and around the motor. I have never seen one with a 4" pipe as the flow inducer though. It would seem like that would actually restrict the flow into the pump. I have a 6" flow inducer on a 5hp well pump in a tank that I irrigate with. With 1hr plus run cycles at 100psi, I would cook the motor without it.

Ok so just got the pump pulled out this evening 200ft deep. Box store well pumps have hit or miss reviews.

What brand of pump does everyone recommend? A Goulds 7eh07422 is what i just pulled out.

Did you ever determine what was the matter with this one? Hard to go wrong with a Gould's, if it actually needs replacing.

Thought it was running, but it was just siphoning water out of the well. Well is up on the hill and just had the hose connected to the drain for the bladder tank.

Put a meter on the wires out at the well house and wasn't getting any voltage. So i thought it was going to be an easy fix, grabbed a roll of 10/2 i had and ran it above ground from pressure switch to well. tested it at 120 a leg, pump still wouldn't turn on. It still weird to me that if the wires in the ground shorted out or whatever, why didn't it pop a breaker? tons of rocks and tree roots while digging down. Also found that there was new wire running from pressure switch out from the crawls space, but at the well it was connected with the old 40+ year old wire. So i assume the spliced it under ground somewhere, assuming when they decided to ditch the well control box, idk. Only been in this house about 5 years, so no idea.
 
Wires can chafe thru down in the hole and not kick a breaker. It's a pain in the ass to spot it too after the entire thing has been pulled from depths.

Yeap. My FILs recently did this. Only way we found it was to tie two wires together and check continuity with a multi meter.
