The proud parent thread.

I hate it every summer when they have to go back. No matter how old they are, I like having them home and enjoying their summer. Sleeping late, eating junk food, and swimming. I like my kids care free and enjoying themselves. Plenty of time left to be a miserable adult.

Hit me hard last night...my wife made me start the school year bedtime routine with the kids. The last 3 months or so I've had the older 2 up watching movies, catching fireflies, doing science experiments, fixing stuff, etc etc. I straight up love hanging out with my kids, so the fact that I got an hour and half less play time last night, thoroughly bummed me out.

Moved my daughter and her dog into her apartment Saturday.
On one hand I like the quiet...but man - on the other.....
I told my kids they can stay home as long as they want. My oldest couldn’t leave fast enough. That’s her personality. I don’t know what I’m going to do when my middle daughter decides to leave. I might just have to build an apartment onto the house. My little boy, well, I just hope he doesn’t go to jail.

Oldest gets dropped off at college in T minus 10 days. There's an ongoing pool about whom is going to miss him the most... me, his mom, little sister, or the cat that sleeps with him every night. September is gonna be a mess around here.

Well first day of 1st grade was a success…she was just glad they didn’t make her do her multiplication tables today because she was nervous and thought she’d mess up. I told her they’d ease in to that…but since she’s in a competency based program, she hopes she gets to skip a grade or two. Told her it probably wouldn’t work that way, but she’s determined to catch up to her friend that did skip 2 grades.

Proud Grandparent post.
Daughter 2 has twins ..... I have posted pics before.
I can't post a pic of this but ......
The 2 yr. old twins are potty training and only wear diapers when sleeping.
Welllllllll, Little Girl woke up early from her nap with a loaded diaper and decided to remove it herself.
If you have been a parent long enough you can see where this is going.
Her, the bed, the floor, a reachable bookcase, and ....... she practiced her finger painting on the wall!

D2 sent pics i sent back a poop icon laughing ..... just glad I didn't have to clean it up!
BTW- The SIL cleaned up while D2 put Little Girl in the tub ...... and the SIL is a germophobe!

We were supposed to start our new school routine this past week and that hasn't happened yet. Then, we are throwing in a new puppy into the mix this weekend, So we are going to shoot for starting it Monday. I love hanging out with my daughter too man, but I also love the quiet time when she goes to bed....for about 30 min, and then I miss her and want to go get her and let her hang just a little while longer...

I save all of my coins, singles and 5s. So that when we go on vacations throughout the year we cash it in. The kids (7 and 9 y/o daughters). Each get an envelope from the bank with the money split. Used to we let them do whatever with it. Here lately I have been back on a cash only kick so these trips are often yielding a few hundred bucks instead of the 100ish range. So we now make them buy the lunches while we’re on vacation, hoping to teach them the value of a dollar more than just buying slime and candy. Well my youngest has caught on as she demanded she was doing the ordering since she was paying. Made me eat a 3$ value meal because is was more budget friendly for her….. seems like it’s working but she’s coming home with more cash than I am 😂

My 5 year old daughter has been asking for a puppy for the last 2 years. She asked Santa this last year for a puppy and Mom and Dad have just been holding off waiting till we are ready... Well, wife and I have been talking about it the last month or so and decided that if we could find a dog that we both liked and if everything just fell into place, we would pull the trigger. Well, that happened last Friday and while I am proud that she is trying to adjust and help out as much as she can, she just doesn't seem as excited as I thought she'd be. I also forgot how irritating having a puppy was, but he sure is cute.

Well, I didn't do the football vow and still had 2 girls.
I could have a very nice house with a very nice beach view with what I spent on 2, 3 sport athletes.
Not to mention the money spent on ER trips.

So my 4year old had her open house this morning. Her best friend is in her class and can’t speak (little boy sitting next to her in this pic). He’s basically mute, but can form some words, otherwise it’s just noise. The family are great friends of our as well…anyway, communication between my child who is always the smallest in the class, and the teacher:

Teacher: it’s great Jace will have such a good friend in class, you can help make him comfortable and look out for him

Millie: If anyone makes fun of him, I’ll drop’em

Me/Wife: …………

Teacher: oh, uuuuuuuhmmmmm…well, how about you come tell a teacher, please

Millie: ok…then I’ll drop’em

Had open house for our little girl yesterday for Kindergarten and it went great! Her teacher just seems like such a good person and she seems like she is really excited about teaching and Calvary says she is super excited. I on the other hand, am having a hard time. We found out at open house that parents are not allowed to walk their kids to class which is a bummer for me because I have always envisioned walking my daughter to her first kindergarten class since she was born...

We also had kindergarten open house yesterday, and it was a shit show. Class starts Monday and they still don't have a clue which kid is in which class room or who the teacher will be.
But, they said we can walk her to class the first two weeks, so that's a win.

Not sure where to post this but this is my daughter (senior at UNC CH) hiding under a desk in a classroom today at UNC while an active shooter was loose. The world is fubared friends.....she is fine, was locked down for about 3 hrs today, texting her mom brother and myself. Times like this all I can think to do is hug my beagles.........

Glad she’s safe…I imagine that has to be terrifying as a parent.

Today was the first day of school for my fourth grader and he said that they have been doing active shooter and lockdown drills today

Seemed like a bad way to set the tone for the year. He came home asking me what I would do if there was a shooter in my school (when I was a kid). I told him half the people at my school had guns but we never were worried about a shooting. Times have changed.
Yeah man, that’s a hard one. I can remember umpteen of my closest friend who had XYZ rifle, pistol, or shotgun depending on the season in the cab of their truck and laid across the back seat of their car. It really is just mind blowing.
