Lots of interesting news today

I'm the same way as Ben, a cheaper EV, without all the bells and whistles for just around town driving wouldn't be bad. I don't need a 300 mile range, give me one with 100.

I'll drive my truck when I want to go farther (and normally do anyways).

No desire to buy a 60k one
Ditto. My daily commute is 26 miles. We already take other cars for long family trips.
I'd use an EV for cummuting only if it had a fast acceleration and was fun to drive and no fancy shit, just a normal steering wheel, pedals, radio and maybe electric windows. But nobody makes such a thing, and if they did it would probably cost too much to use just as a DD. No way I'd use one as my only vehicle.

Its gotta put a bigger smile on my face to drive than my current DD to make the switch, which is a hard sell.

It has a muffler. But somehow the 5000cc v8 in a F150 is damn near silent while the 800cc twin in a Polaris Ranger requires you to holler to talk to the person sitting beside you. This is nothing new, its actually quite normal for ATVs/UTVs/dirtbikes/boats/etc.
One of these vehicles is enclosed and has acoustic baffling.

I'd use a (insert)decent fossil fuel vehicle for cummuting only if it had a fast acceleration and was fun to drive and no fancy shit, just a normal steering wheel, pedals, radio and maybe electric windows. But nobody makes such a thing, and if they did it would probably cost too much to use just as a DD.
Edited for you.

Googling the last name Chaibounmingkhouan . . . more opportunities to try your annunciation

North Carolina fugitive wanted in stabbing arrested in Lewiston
U.S. marshals, along with Lewiston and Maine State Police, said they found Alyalia Chaibounmingkhouan, 19, in Lewiston arrested her on a warrant charging her with trying to kill a man

This has some potential;

It doesn't meet Rat Lab Guy's specifications for acceleration/fun to drive, but that disregards the maxim "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than it is to drive a fast car slow."

If they actually pull this off, I just might pick one up as a daily...

Tesla is quickly evolving into a robotics company. Most of the people I know that have them don't drive them. You get in, hit the button, and it drives you where to need to go. You fuck off on your phone in the meantime.

And then promptly crash... or get vandalized...or have to buy a bumper sticker explaining your reason for purchase

When you know what your party is capable of so you try and sticker yourself into safety

Honestly it’s a shame there’s nowhere for people to go and do stuff like this. In the middle of the f’n road is obviously not the right place, but take away that element and it looks like a good time. Guns, fast cars, chicks? I’m in!

Just show up behind K1 Indoor Carting in Concord any weekend in the summer. We live a mile from there as the crow flies, and sometimes we can hear the lyrics to the music in between burnouts. I drove there one night to see what was going on. Easily 200 cars and 400 people. I wouldn’t mind so much if they’d end it at a decent hour.

Most of the things that the idiot mayor is proposing have been tried/used and shouted down as racist....now here wee are

It's like the 'system' is designed to fail so there is always a problem so we always need more and more government.....hmmmmm

One of many PRIME examples of democratic led cities falling on its face despite SO much monetary influx. Sitting in my house in Moore county after retiring because fawk cumberland county. Hoke county is closing in and will be right there within 5 yrs. Mark my words.

Welp, I guess they'll have to fire another 500 Fed emplyees to pay for that plane.
I was about to say "don't exaggerate" then I did the math... Yep, about 482 employees = one F/A-18.

I had someone at Fort Cavazos (aka Fort Hood) propose that we cancel the entire civilian Redux for Forces Command. We'd just need to cancel the tasking they received for parade support on 14 June. It's estimated at $50 million. That is BEFORE they account for all the road damage that the tracked vehicles will do to the streets.
