I've got a school thats behind due to weather by about a month. Then the send out a notice that they are (without question) shaving 2 additional weeks off the schedule and no we a ther days will be given. Want us to set our stair before the first slab is poured. They were appalled when we said it ain't happening.
Ive got sort of the opposite problem right now.
Doing an office building renovation. Superintendent on the job for the GC is 22. This is a $15MM project, its his first job ever as a super and his PM is 2 states away.
Hes a great and bright young man...but he's 22.
We are ahead, way ahead and he wants to stay there. I get it.
Well he finished framing Tuesday. Was supposed to finish Friday. Then 2 weeks for MEP rough in. Then rock.
He "hung one side" wednesday and thursday on one floor.
We showed up yesterday to get a jump on rough ins for next week.
Guys called me, we pulled off and went home. He called in a fit. Told him to tell me when the rock was off and we would be back.
'We only did one side so the inspector can see your pipe.'
How do I screw my boxes to the stud face?
'Cant you jut use retro boxes like rework?'
Sure - if you will give a change order.
'Why?'
Well it increases material cost and probably quadruples labor.
'Ok - get me a number and Ill make a decision.'
Sure Ill have that to you in the contractually permitted 7 days, we have a full estimating slate next week.
Then his PM - a really cool dude with my grey than not who grew up through the field - calls me and raises hell because 'I said we werent doing the job'
Explained the situation. He says 'That dumbass did WHAT?!!?'
Ok can you be there Tuesday, we will pull off the sheetrock monday.
sigh.
What fun it is....
