My dad brother and myself have some of the oldest vehicles in the parking lot at work, and we own the place
I've got an uncle through marriage that is the head of a major company his dad started. Probably 7-800 employees.
Deca-millionaire, easily...too bad he doesnt share.
He is currently driving a 2013 Tundra with just over 200k miles. He lives like 8 miles from the office. In 2013 he bought it to replace his 1989 F150...because he thought he was getting older and finally out to have AC.
If you meet this man and he isnt at work, its sweat pants, t shirts, new balance running shoes and a jaw full of redman golden blend...or whatever they have renamed it to today.
A month or so back he asked me to meet him on a Saturday at one of his facilities to look at doing a service upgrade. We met there, its a remote facility and I am pretty sure no one there knew who he was. The maintenance guy is walking us around and opening the electrical room door. Out back in the employee lot we are looking at the transformer. Two employees are on a smoke break looking at one them's new Duramax Denalis. My uncle jokingly says, 'Man I need a job here - looks like they pay real well'...the employee - thinking this old man in sweatpants is with me says 'Yes sir, its a great place to work, but there are deals out there on new trucks.'
Uncle Jim looks at his new truck and says 'Man that sure is nice, maybe one day I'll be able to justify buying me one'
We finish up and walk away and my uncle said a phrase to me that drips with wisdom that he told me once when I was 17 and Ive never forgotten, I finished his sentence and he smiled.
'As a rule rich men buy flashy things, wealthy men don't'
