No more inspection stickers

Got the TJ inspected yesterday ( a month late, but better late than never) and the station told me that NC has done away with stickers. Windshield looks empty!

Apparently linked to your tag renewal now. First I had heard of it.
 
I had heard the rumor. I think it's going to be a lot harder to drive your off-road trucks on the road now. They are really tightening up on the restrictions. I hate to see what the next step is.

That being said I didn't say this towards driving an illegal truck on the road before anyone gets upset, I'm just thinking it's going to be harder to get them inspected and when it won't pass for something trivial you won't get your tags.
 
Does anybody know if the 35 year old & no inspection needed is going to be affected??

No

The inspections are the same, you still have to go get them, but it's all tied together now. And , no more stickers.

The Hilton still sports an out of date as of 04 sticker. Been waiting to get pulled so I can show them the registration.
 
Did this just switchover, cuz I just got 2 vehicles inspected In October with fresh Stickers...?

I had heard it was going to be happening and been delayed.
 
YES! now i can pressure wash my windshield with out having to worry about blowing it off!

there are good and bad points to it.

The sticker on my Honda expires this month, the tag expires in April. I have to have the car inspected this month, but not again until April of 2010. not bad, sort of a saving for me for the year.
My Camry, nov tag, nov inspection, no work around.
My GMC, we'll it's registered as a '73, so it doesn't get inspected (woohoo), just $103 tag for the year.
Yes, they are making it tougher to get out of/around.

I don't see any way they could change that now, on e you're "of the list", seems it would be difficult to re-add it.

In MD, there's only 1 inspection - when you register the vehicle the 1st time; you have to have the inspection approval and paperwork in order to apply for regs. After that, no inspection.

Not really... I'm learning the inspection is a complete ass-raping of your vehicle, standard billed time being 1-2 hours to do it, enough that most places need a reservation etc. Charged at whatever the shop's rate is too, anywhere from $50-100. They do a full dyno-style emissions test at multiple speeds for emissions, remove wheels and inspect brakes, etc etc. If you fail... it has to be taken back to the same place, even same inspector, to pass.
Of course after that you could let it all fall apart... except that you can still get a fix-it ticket by a cop anytime for anything that WOULD fail inspection.
Oh, and here, all vehicles must be currently registered (e.g. current tags to the tune of $90/year), whether moving, on the road, or not... even if it's just sitting in your yard...

You still have to get the VEIP inspection every other year. OBD-II cars just get plugged up, pre-96 have to do the treadmill.
 
what happens if i bought it out of inspection....never got it inspected. do they just ask me to get it inspected the next time registration is renewed? im about 6 months out now and havent received a letter. sounds like i can just remove the sticker and not worry about being pulled. oh yeah, its an 89 model.


hmm...if i never get it inspected, i wonder if it ever gets tied to the registration?
 
I heard they were thinking of changing the 35yr old rule to a 25 yr old rule.....anyone else heard about this??

I just moved to NC in June, so I am trying to figure out the rules

I bet next time you try to register it, they will see no inspection, and give you no registration renewal.
 
Any vehicle over 35 years old does not need to be inspected.

The new process started on 11-1-2008

The way the new inspection process works is you now have to get the vehicle inspected BEFORE you go to the tag office. They will not give you tags without having the inspection receipt/printout. Everything is electronically linked to your tag. With it being electronically linked it will be possible for an officer to follow you down the road and find out if your inspection is current. It will also be alot easier on the DMV to keep track of records and mail out fines for being past due. Also the e-stickers are impossible to steal unlike the paper stickers.

I'm loving this new process. Makes my job alot easier. Only have to scrape stickers. No more punching out month and year and writing on them.
 
Can someone find a link reguarding the laws on registering/inspecting a dune buggy for street use? Ive searched all night and can't find anything. I'm trying to find what exactly you HAVE to have. Its for a buddy of mine working on a tube chassis VW style dune buggy deal.

if you buy a car and need to get tags for you have to get a 3 day tag permit before you can drive it. that way your tag until you get your inpection.
when you go get your inpection you dont need any paper work what so ever now asier on customer but harder on shops as trying to keep every thing right
 
Anyone know where I can go that will pass my tinted windows? I have three cars from out of state and all of them need tag renewals/inspections.

Good point! I guess you're referencing the way they used to break down the sticker fee and inspection fee.

The FAQs say the fee will still be $30 for emissions inspection, but go up from $9.10 to $13.60 for safety inspections :poop:

Has anything been added to safety inspection, or is this just a convenient time to increase the fees?
