Sore thumb...

Dude that's awesome that you have those memories and the cars are still there to remind you of him. Sweet rides. Bet he was a great guy.

I'm not that old (32) and I remember Piedmont Airlines. I took several trips on them back in the day. I even have my "Wings" they gave me as a kid! Now my son has them.

Nice collection. Dad grew up in Thomasville...and we still have a home there. My grandfather had a Taylorcraft he used to fly all over the Triad. Still have the prop and one Lycoming valve cover.

Thanks, yea he was really a neat guy, kinda an inspiration to me, and always somebody to look up too! Unfortunately all of the classics, and all but a few of the modern cars were sold about a year before his death. His wife made him do it without telling any of us before hand.

We still have a few of the cars, but the real special ones (the Amphicar in particular, which he'd had since new!) are no longer with us. Thats why I/we would love to track some of them down! They were sold at a car auction in Charlotte, at no reserve, and many of them fetched as little as 25% their actual value! :(

Haha thats awesome! :) I'm glad you have good memories of them! Unfortunately I wasn't born till 90', so I never knew Piedmont, but I love aviation! The reason I asked that question is because my grandfather was Bill Howard, who was the CEO if Piedmont. One of you asked who he was lol! He used to live in Winston Salem.

He was president when they were bought out by USAir. He also loved flying (obviously!) He had a few planes himself over the years, the only one I remember though was a Cessna Skymaster that he had a few years back! It was an amazing plane! I'm learning to fly at the minute, so hopefully one of these days my dad will buy himself a plane too! :)

I still get to occasionally work on a few of those turds. A Volvo v6 is what powers them, 88mph is about all shes got.

Lol yea, they're really quite a dog when it comes to speed and power! US emissions and such really killed any hope of a decent power output! These days you drive them more for the looks they get you than anything! They're a pain in the ass to keep clean though! Everybody wants to come up and touch it!!
