If you insist on using that thing to tow anything ever again, do us all a favor and at least get it proffesionally fixed. You may do alright messing around with trail rigs but when other people's safety is at stake dont take chances. You keep saying that you couldnt sell your truck and get a good tow rig, I bet if you looked real hard you could find a decent 2wd gas 3/4 ton for what you could get out of your truck. Then finish one of your many trail rigs and get out on the trail. You may not stand out as much in your daily driver but youd have ten times more fun wheeling and you could tow without killing people.

As far as the buisness thing its just work I do for people I know or people I know's friends mostly whenever I feel like it. Anything from a little 2" suspension lift to fabbin a suspension or bumpers etc. but yea it's nothin serious.

That's just it... "Fabbin a suspension" is a VERY serious job, and not something to be taken lightly.

Juggy's right that you should perhaps ask for advice BEFORE doing something, but there's been enough posts in here about how NOT to tow, and he did it anyway... So it would appear he doesn't care.

a break away box isnt going to help in his case where the hitch rips off. In most cases people put the rip cord on the hitch's safety loops, so if the hitch rips off, break away wont activate anyway. Just do it right and find a professional to do it, or someone with a little know-how.

Then, put your lifted wake tech mobile on ebay and sell it, find a nice 1st gen dodge or even a 3/4 gasser for equal amount of your sale, and feel better that your safe for yourself and others.

Just one sugestion
Drop the k1500 back down, get a new hitch do not fix that one please, dont use a 10 in drop hitch. and fix your brakes.

Oh wait that was 4.....

My trailer brakes don't work yet eaither, how ever my tow rig is not a 1/2 ton lifted mud truck.
my truck stops fine but it still makes me nervous. so my trailer brakes will work before the next trip.

the lowered k1500 will tow you rig just fine but you need to get the trail brakes fixed to be safe. and you might also want to get some wighted tags to keep it some what legal.

Exactly why I have break away switch connected to bumper which is connected to the frame at different points then the reciever hitch.. gotta be seperate to work correctly :)

If you listen you will learn something new every day!:)

Ricky, Your truck couldn't SAFELY pull my finger. It is marginally safe to be using at as anything other than a Big Hoopdie or a Mall Crawler. Sell it and buy a proper workhorse if thats what you NEED.

I forgot i had this... somehow seems fitting...:) :flipoff2:

Just Kidding... Be safe guys!!

I first off have to say I am 25 years old.

I just have realized that i needed to grow up

I sold my Sweet, Awesome Lifted Grand Cherokee...

The reason: It didnt suit my everyday needs.

You may have a sweet truck, and I think you do, but its time to grow up. If you have to tow heavy things, and it seems you are doing more and more, then you need to get a vehicle that suits that need. and a lifted chevy truck isnt going to fit that need.

And if that means that you have to go from a badass z71 to a 2wd Dodge Ram thats ok, because that family of 4 that you DIDN'T hit driving that dodge will thank you for spareing their future.

Another fine example of why trailer brakes are so important! Just think, it could be the chevy broke in half!

Josh

If a 1/2 ton did the same thing, it would have been ALOT worse.

15-20mph? I think a little faster... maybe 15-20 when he hit the porch!

Lifted tow rigs are dumb. Real dumb. So is a tow rig with MT's, which suck ass in the rain. Towing with one without trailer brakes is even worse. Damn, what if the guy sitting on the porch couldn't move quickly? How does manslaughter grab ya?

How many damn kids are gonna keep doing this shit before someone actually does get killed?

And yes, his father is just as much to blame for letting him do it. :shaking: He should know better.

On a lighter note - Wolfpack - the answer to the last line in your signature - They're mounted behind the bumper of my tow rig. :D

what does lifted have to do with trailer brakes. if he would have had trailer brakes there wouldnt have a bent up truck. it had nothing to do with the lift or m/t's

Lifted means bigger tires, and more rotational momentum. This means it's harder for the brakes to stop the wheels.

Softer or offroad tires mean they have more trouble gripping pavement especially on wet roads.

If he had trailer brakes, they MAY have been enough to stop the truck. And, they may not have been. I'm not going to say either way, but if you had the chance to avoid the situation from happening again, wouldn't you do everything possible? A lifted rig is an offroader, not a tow rig.
