Video time, you can feel the v6 Toyota power through the screen.....

Adding this link for future reference. Im going to recreate that trans tunnel I think. I have hated my shifter and "console"/floor setup since I first installed duals in this truck back in 2008, they suck in hot air into the cab, are loud and it sucks. Also my fab skills have advanced since then so it's time to take a 3rd crack at it. Flooded 1981 Toyota Pickup Revival

I also want to play around with rivets and dzus fasteners. Rivets to attach it to the floor and dzus for the top panel. My first 12yrs working was in the aviation field and I was training to be a commerical pilot at one point, and I think those would be a good harken back to those days. Plus popping a panel off with a 1/4 turn is pretty sweet. Rivets obviously because screw welding sheet metal to sheet metal LOL

Copy that on the duals. I cut big holes to fit. It was nightmare to get the bolts into the trans. I even plunge cut the grinder and used a hammer in a few places to get the t case ebrake to not work. Currently running highly modified Subaru trunk mat I installed in under 2 minutes and filled the voids with some shop towels.

The heat in the summer is worse than the smoldering gear oil.

Sucks right? With mine I cut out the entire tunnel to make room for the linkages for the triple sticks and to access everything when I have to drop the cases and half ass attached a panel over it with self tappers. I can't drive with the windows down for very long on the interstate in temps over 70* because the heat gets sucked up through the floor and the cases will start to overheat, getting blasted with hot air from under the truck defeats the purpose of driving with the windows down on a decent day lol.

My setup is not that bad. Perhaps it’s the small body lift I had to do to keep from the 3.4 popping out of the hood. Also I only cut out enough to be bigger than I needed to get to the shifters on the duals.

Either way, that trans-case tunnel is a looming project but I’m not ready to fight that battle now. Ton swap first.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

For sure! Hopefully I actually do it this winter, I have been kicking this can down the road for a 10yrs now LOL!!

First things first is I need to get this windshield ordered so I can start ripping everything out of the cab and get the cab somewhat straight again so the doors fit on it and I can pass inspection in the spring.

Put the "new" door on it today, cab is not bent as far forward as I thought, which is awesome. I tend to assume the worst at all times and go from there so that's par for the course lol.

Mark where the factory door overlapped the cab:

A little bit tighter to the roof:

I'll message that some more once the windshield comes out and push the A pillar up and out some. Still have no idea how it doesn't leak.

It's so hard to tell what is actually straight on this truck/cab as I have been banging it off trees since 2005.

Did some exploratory surgery today on the floor over the cases.
Boots removed.

The bottom of the plate over the rear case, I wonder why it made so much noise in 4low

I wonder why it popped out of 4wd sometimes at high throttle? That's the 4wd linkage.

Torn boot

Overall shot of what I'm dealing with. Im looking at building a rectangle around the shifters out of square tube and bolting a panel over that with the shift boots attached to that. I do need to order a new triple stick boot and start cutting up sheet metal and cleaning up the hack fab. I built this when I was a noob so it was a panel attached with seam sealer and self tappers over all that lol. I'll probably take the seats and carpet out before work tomorrow.

Anyone have any good ideas for cupholders?
