Am I being a Dumbass?

@GONOVRIT would have already been there yesterday.

Meh, ain’t worth dying for.

Are you checking mileage on paper also? How close is the computer?

Just using the computer. It’s probably off a little, but I’m only worried about the dollars this trip. I’m aiming to come out cheaper than the quotes I got to ship it. I’ve lowered my cruise to 75 in a 75 instead of running 80. Big difference! My average is back up to 18 mpg’s over the last 2100 miles.

If you drop down to 55 I bet it improves even more.

You should hand calc a couple to see what the real numbers are. To make it even easier, just log it to fuelly.com and you don't even have to do the math. If it's anything like my Ford, you'll find that on the higher mpg tanks, the computer is closer to reality, but the lower mpg tanks the computer is much more optimistic than the actual.

I think I’ve said this before...but if my understanding is correct from when I ran across this topic in one of my owner manuals, the mpg calculator is normalized based on the previous 500 miles. So you never get a true mpg reading from that calculation unless you’re driving the same 100% of the time. Also the reason why your ‘miles to E’ is significantly higher after an unloaded, all highway tank, than whatever other scenarios you typically have. If all that’s accurate, I’d imagine after 2100 miles, his calculator should be pretty darn close to true.

It should be... Mine calculates based on miles accumulated since I reset it, which is every tank. And it lists the number of gallons used, and the number of miles driven, so it should be exactly right.

Yet it's off by 5-20% every time, and always optimistic.

I do and have had the same. Always assumed that consumed gallons was where it was ‘normalized’. When I’d do a mid-tank fill up, that consumed number rarely reconciled to actual. Regardless, like you said, the calculator isn’t accurate.

The view off the 14th floor of the Aria. I’ll snap a few more after it’s all lit up.

Kobe A5 Wagyu is f’n amazing! Worth every penny.

Day 3 wrapped up with some much needed R&R. Lil Sis didn’t wanna give up 4 hours of her Vegas time for the Grand Canyon. Maybe on the return trip. Started out with a disappointing trip through the Hoover Dam parking lot. Being a law abiding, gun toting, American, I disclosed to the security checkpoint that I was carrying a firearm. They u-turn you and write down your license plate. Maybe next time. The Aria is pretty pimp, but also pricey. Lil Sis appreciated the fancy since this stop was all about her. She picked the restaurant based on a buddy’s recommendation. Mastro’s served up one of the worlds best steaks. Kobe A5 Wagyu beef is f’n amazing. I’m ruined for life now although I’m likely to never pay that for a steak again. She picked Zumanity for her show. Pretty good, definitely funny, and adult (18+). Soo... tits! Good way to end the night. Today added another $110 in fuel and a $300 hotel stay. We won’t talk about the steak price.

Just curious, how much was the steak? A snazzy place around here had some last week that was $20/oz

That price is pretty dang close. Some places charge more for the “ambiance”. I’m a straight meat and potatoes kinda guy.

This was from a butcher shop/seafood market that is generally over-priced.

Eastbound and down MF’s!

The greatest irony is that yellow billboard behind you that says "Goodbye Freight Brokers"

Hope the dash/gauges survive

That gives me anxiety even looking at it. I know I've said the Murphy's law thing already, but I have no doubt, if that were me...that thing would fall off and hit 4 cars on the way home, and probably fall off into a ditch another 8 times or so. And then for good measure, pivot a few times to cave in the cab. Yeah yeah...I probably need to learn how to strap things down.
