Am I being a Dumbass?

Hope the dash/gauges survive

Dash is bolted in and it’s pretty stout material. Definitely not sheet metal. Gauges are Auto Meter and strapped with carriages and thumb screws. I don’t think they’ll go anywhere either. Thanks for looking out.

Hate you didn’t get to see the Hoover Dam! I did it last year and it was pretty amazing. Concrete is my life but even knowing nothing about it is amazing to see and learn the history.

That gives me anxiety even looking at it. I know I've said the Murphy's law thing already, but I have no doubt, if that were me...that thing would fall off and hit 4 cars on the way home, and probably fall off into a ditch another 8 times or so. And then for good measure, pivot a few times to cave in the cab. Yeah yeah...I probably need to learn how to strap things down.

Oh ye of lil faith.

Oh ye of lil faith.

With the shit I see on the road, I absolutely have faith other people can do it...it just rarely works out for me. No lies...I was borderline contemplating paying someone to pick up the 10.5 sterling I got a couple weeks back that was only an hour away, because I knew some how it would wind up on the road/bashing the trailer gate down/bashing out my rear window/bashing my tailgate...and would probably have to end up changing all 4 trailer tires...twice. Luckily made it without a problem (except after lifting that heavy pig, the sheetz breakfast burrito started moving ended up on the side of the road with one of my brother's favorite golf towels).

Day 4 was brutal. Didn’t hit the pillow till around 1:30 in the morning. Sis and I are on a mission to get home to our families. Also trying to stay ahead of whatever winter storm is chasing us across the country. The climb up out of CA and across the Arizona Divide combined with my wind sail brought fuel economy down to an all time low of 12.9 mpg. I’m speculating that the tank of B20 I bought in CA didn’t help any either. I’m thinking I read somewhere that the lubricity is good for your truck, but you’ll be down on power? Who knows. Either way, another $200 in fuel and a $90 hotel stay. We’ve left Grants, NM and hope to land back in Arkansas tonight.

This has to be the most exciting trip I've never been on.

Make sure to get some algeacide (or however you spell it) when you get back home. That plant diesel crap can wreak havoc on your fuel system

It’ll have had another 100 gallons run through it by then. You think anything will still remain?

I run some in my diesels with every tank. I had algae grow in my 3rd gen tank and it took about 10 filter changes in a couple thousand miles before it cleared up. Of course the truck only gets around 2-3k miles a year put on it so that doesn't help

Day 3 wrapped up with some much needed R&R. Lil Sis didn’t wanna give up 4 hours of her Vegas time for the Grand Canyon. Maybe on the return trip. Started out with a disappointing trip through the Hoover Dam parking lot. Being a law abiding, gun toting, American, I disclosed to the security checkpoint that I was carrying a firearm. They u-turn you and write down your license plate. Maybe next time.
GC is overrated IMO and I just rolled right thru the parking lot w mine like I had good sense. We visited the Cadillac ranch and spent the night in OK city.Left the next day around lunch and drove straight home to TN,Didnt see much of interest in Arkansas so we kept rollin.

You are the first person I have ever heard of that thought the Grand Canyon was unimpressive. You sure you didn't go to the wrong canyon?

It’s a big hole with a dirty river in it. A friend and I walked to the edge, talked about how much dirt it would take to fill it since he owns a construction business and walked away. Of things to see in the US that revolve around nature and the outdoors it’s just meh in my book.

So then what's your take on the grand canyon of the east? (Linville Gorge)

Im not usually an artsy fartsy scenery guy...but we visited the GC in January 15 and it was snowing. We somehow came into GC NP backwards and sort of came around a curve and BAM.

It was truly, for me, overwhelming. I thought back to pioneers who had rode west on horse and wagon for months and battled terrain and elements and thought they were finally getting "Close" and then to see THIS obstacle.
It had to lend credence to stories of giants and cyclops...anything was possible if a ditch was this big. I sat on a rock edge and drank a beer and it was almost a spiritual experience.

Then we took some touristy photos went to the gift shop bought some tourist trap souvenirs and carried on

Day 5 was the last long haul day. I mean really, we’ve already seen this road anyway. Like was said earlier, there’s nothing in OK or AR worth seeing. If you’ve never driven 14 hours in a day, I highly recommend you NEVER do it. Another $240 in fuel and a $75 hotel stay.
