Anybody watching the World Cup?

I'm sure you COULD have paid somebody else to do that... sounds to me like your priorities just aren't there

I got our for under $900 and I consider that a success. I've had a slide deck that I've needed to put together at work and let that get pushed too. It's due today and I don't think the heads will be happy that I don't have it done. They get all bent out of shape if it's late. I mean who needs it to talk the EPA in Atlanta anyway. I usually just wing that shit.

Yes, I could have DVR'd it but I hate watching sports where I already know the outcome.

I do not watch much American sports.. but the two sports I do watch are Futbol(soccer) and Tour de France type bike racing.

Reason: I played soccer for 22 years and I used to race Tour de France type races when I was 15 thru 19. so I understand all the little things the player/riders do during these events and since I have actually been part of those sports I appreciate them more.

but I have never been a fan of paying athletes millions of dollars and watching people go crazy over the athletes..but I guess it is the same as some people going crazy of people in hollywood.

like doping ? Sorry man, couldn't resist that one :D.

no

Soccer would be so much better with a shot clock! 0-0 draws are no fun. All the panzies flopping all over the place like they've been shot with the least bit of contact kills me.

I agree with the acting. That is the most annoying part of it. I saw a guy get hit in the face by a players arm (nothing major) and he grabs his eye and starts yelling. Then later on he changes it up and starts holding his jaw. Dude pick a part and stick with it. You'll never win an Oscar that way.

Played soccer for 13 years before switching to football and I will admit that today there are a bunch of whiny dudes out there hoping to get a PK or change possession with a dive. It used to be completely common for someone to run a man off the ball and if he fell on his face thats his deal for not winning the challenge so long as the other player didn't extend a hand or arm or trip the guy. Now they all hit the pitch with the least bit of contact. Part of me blames the ref's for allowing that mess and blowing the whistle so often rather than letting them play, but the other part blames grown men for being giant poontangs.

0-0 draw's can be a bore if both teams just play defense and wait for the other one to mess up, but the Mexico/Brazil matchup yesterday proved otherwise.

Never got into Soccer... My grandfather loves it and watches most games, but he is from Germany and its a big deal over there. He has no idea how the NFL works, though we have some german relatives who came last year just to hit a few NFL games since it is growing in popularity over there.

If the WNBA played topless I probably still wouldn't watch... got some really manly looking girls out there... Soccer, volleyball, etc... yeah maybe I could do that haha

when I was in high school 3 of our teammates went to Europe for a summer and played soccer over there, when they came back they were all diving all over the field trying to get the ref to blow the whistle.. our coach sat the entire team down after a game and said if he sees one more person take a dive they would not be playing soccer for him anymore.. our team was ranked one of the top teams in the area. needless to say there were no more dives in the games after that.. we got to play hard and hit each other without worrying about someone taking a dive..

Ironically the Brazil v Mexico 0-0 game was one of the best ones so far haha.

^ I concur and retract the previous statement LOL. I still don't see why they don't go to PK's at the end of every tie game.

OT and PK's start in the elimination rounds. Group play and advancing from group play is based on a points system so it would be all out of whack without the possibility of a draw.

Once the elimination rounds begin it's 2 15 min OT periods that are not sudden death. If it's tied at the end of those it goes on to PK's.

Oh, you thought I was going forget about this thread, did you?

So really what we should be counting on is Portugal w/ a small point vistory, seeing as how our chances of a W are pretty much zilch.

yeah but the talk has been about whether the US and ze Germans will tie. If they do the US is in and so are they. It's more like a gentlemen's agreement but the US coach is claiming that won't happen. Even though it has in the past on a couple of occasions.

Hm, interesting idea... that would definitely help bolster interest in the US to stay tuned. So it's in FIFAs interest too...
Otherwise we all know as soon as our team is out, the channel will be changed.

if you have not heard there is a chance the USA game can be suspended.. they entire city is flooded and the field has parts under water..

now we wait and see what happens

Why can't the US team settle a ball when it comes to them? And where is the rule that says we can't pressure their defense?
