B2XJ - Low and Fast

I got to put some highway miles on B2XJ today with the new wheels and tires. It runs like a champ up to around 65mph (slightly off because of the move from 33" to 35") tires, but higher than that and the vibrations start to rattle teeth.

I stopped by Marsfab on Saturday monring to let Chris take a look at the rear suspension seat project. He gave me some ideas and sent me on my way. If he charged for being a sounding board, I'd be poor.

Got to Schwabe Offroad by 1pm and started with the over the knuckle install. Scott knocked out getting Spartan locker pulled from the D30 and it and the the 4.88 Motive gears reinstalled.

On Sunday we finished the OTK, JKS knuckle flange spacers and 760 u-joint shafts install.

Read your blog:

The JKS spacers are 0.25″ wide and might require using some washers to spacer the calipers out to center them on the rotors. I stopped by MarsFab and checked out a XJ that Chris had just done the WJ knuckle swap on. He used an aftermarket rotor, I can’t remember the brand, but didn’t need the caliper spacers or cut down shafts.

We used Explorer Sport-Trac rotors. I believe we looked up a 2001, but I think they're all the same.

You axle is pimpin'. I'm digging the truss and gussets. Might have to have Marsfab set me up with one.

I haven't driven the XJ yet with the gears or OTK. The new C8.25 is going in tomorrow and I will throw it on the rocks Wednesday to test it.

We did not weld them. I was split on that decision, but I had that hammer the mess out of them to get them into the knuckle, so I doubt they will come out. Maybe I'll regret not welding them, but for now I'm fine with them not being welded.

Oh man! US Navy gray would actually be a really cool color, but the axle is bubble gum pink with some sort of darker pink knuckle with a coat of some chameleon. Big pimpin' :p

It started out as a joke, but he actually did it. lol

Are you coming out to Rides with me on Wednesday?

Are you still running the wheel spacers? If so, I would lose them now that you have the Racelines. There is no need (imho) because of the backspacing of the beadlocks. That will also helpout tremendously with your vibrations.

Speaking of which, did you put any beads in the tires for balancing?

I can't make it to Rides. Having Schwabe Offroad do the front seat bracket chop, harness bar and rear rack install.

I'm going to stop by Rides later this month and see what they say about the rear suspension seats, but it's likely that I am going to have to sell them and put the stock bench back in the rear. I put out some PM's to guys that have bucket seats in the rear of the XJ, and will be getting some detailed photos of one of their installs later this week.

As it stands, I think the rear suspension seat project is a failure. Maybe Brandon at Rides can do some magic, but I'm not optimistic.

Spacers are long gone. I didn't do balancing beads.

Found out on Friday that my family will be moving to Italy very soon. Wife will likely be there April 1st and I will follow once we can put our stuff on the boat. B2XJ will be making the move with us, so I have a lot of work to do before then.

List of mods to finish for April 1st:
- exterior painted (need to replace dented door and hood before this)
- interior headlined
- h4 conversion (required for importing)
- fenders (required for importing)
- rear seat recovered to match from Corbeau's
- tcase chain and sye
- replace York 210 and get lines run to oba tank
- come to a resolution on what to do with the axle shafts
- front and rear bumpers (have to get a tire carrier bumper)

I'd like to fit in shocks and antirock, but not sure I can swing it.

this just popped in my head so i have no idea how feasible it would be but....

i dont know how the shipping charges go, by weight or do you put the rig in a container? if there was some way to fill the xj up with front d60s you could sell them for gold in europe. all the threads ive read on pirate by guys across the pond talk about how impossible to find and how crazy expensive they are over there. maybe a way to make some extra $$, or just a really stupid idea

Hmmm.....maybe I will see if I can find a buyer before going and have a set built and just stuff them in the back of the XJ.

Went to DPG last weekend and here's the video. I went really easy on the gas after snapping shafts the last two trips out. Go to youtube to see HD version

Did you ever decide on which bumpers you are getting?

Any idea on ETA? I know time is not on your side with the move.

I may be going to The Flats to donate some spectator cash so I can ride on Sunday. Still not positive, are you staying out there Saturday night?

I've been "window shopping" to the TrailReady bumpers since I got the XJ, but haven't been able to pull the trigger. Since the XJ came with a decent homebuilt set of bumpers, replacing them wasn't high on my list. However, with the move to Italy fast approaching, I need somewhere to mount my spare. Hopefully I can get a set of TrailReady bumpers mounted up before I ship the XJ.

I will be at The Flats Friday, might stay the night depending on weather, or drive back up on Saturday. It's unlikely I will be there Sunday as we just have too much to do before April.

I'll probably end up going with an A to Z Fabrication bumper tire carrier kit on the TrailReady rear bumper, since they don't make one themselves that I can find.

UPS dropped off a package today.......Bushwacker Flat Fender Flares
