Then backed up a couple of times "I thought I hit something officer, so I wanted to make sure I didn't hurt it. I didn't realize he was between my tires. Do you think I should pull off of him now?"
 
I certainly like the idea of fabbing up something to protect/hide it.
However, I'd think that if the perps have a sawzall... what's going to protect it from that? The trick is coming up wioth something that somebody else can't get off.... but you can, when it comes time to replace/remove that bad boy yourself...

I like the Volts idea. But wouldn't scew with the 02 sensor? It's body is in contact w/ the exhaust.
 
My cat is completely covered by my skidplate, so they would have to cut off a lot of exhaust, and it would be a huge PITA to get it out, if its even possible.

It is probably possible to insulate the threads on the O2 sensor somehow, but probably not worth the trouble.

If you had something of thicker steel to protect it, say 1/4", it takes ALOT more time and effort to cut through than exhaust tubing. Don't know where everyone's cat is at, but if its like my jeep, you could run some flat plate somehow, bolt it to the frame, and then put a few tack welds on it to make sure.

In conclusion...
Im tempted to go cut the cat off of my jeep and scrap it. That would solve the problem and put some money in my pocket. Too bad we have those "inspections". Maybe I should move to SC.
 
Same with AC units. Guys have been going around town tearing down 3000 dollar units for 30 dollars worth of copper.

They even cought the guys when they had about 1000 dollars worth of copper and steel in the back of the truck. They went to jail on other charges, then released. The cops gave them thier truck... and copper/steel becuase they showed a false receipt.

At $50 a cat, if you can steal 4 a day, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year, thats $50,000, tax free. Just think how much if you work on weekends and don't take that 2 week vacation!!!:wheel:

Big question is did these people who had them stollen file a police report ? Simply telling everyone isn't the same thing.


Curious what would everyone do if you found a guy(s) doing that ?

I'd act like it wasn't my truck and 'offer to help' then I'd detain them using my Barny Fife citizens arrest powers and call the real cops..
 
Uhh, Mike? We don't have citizens arrest powers in NC.

I would take pictures with my camera phone while calling the rangers.

OK I see your point. I'm gonna round up a team of illegals to steal the cats. Then I'll open up a couple of exhaust shops to help launder the money. Thanks for the idea. I'll try to reply to the post from jail if they'll let me.......

my father-in-law and i are in the recycling business..... 100% legit, EPA numbers, constant inspections, the whole 9 yards..... we buy anything from copper to stainless, to aluminum to whatever else we can make $$$ off of..... including catalytic converters..... we pay anywhere from $5 to $100 a piece for them..... i think they are worth more for junk than new.....
the hyundai dealership had 17 cut of BRAND NEW cars a few weeks back..... we never saw them, but if we did, they'd be laid out in the shop til the cops got there.....:huggy:

I fully understand you situation.. If this was something you were concerned about you should have notified a mod or admin. While there may be nothing we can do in most cases, we do make note of sketchy deals to note trends.. By not speaking up you may be helping this clown rip off more people.

PM me a summary, if you would like us to add them to our list.
 
The latest insanity - someone stole the copper downspouts from my grandmother's house. She's now living in a rest home, so the house is empty, but my mom lives 2 doors down, and plenty of people drive by there all the time...
wtf...
