Bourbon

That looks like bad decisions and a night that won’t be remembered in a bottle.
That reminds me...we need to plan another trip before long. I need to call matt and Amy and see when the next wedding is

In y’alls travels, if you happen across some I’d like a bottle. Don’t drink liquor but it needs to be owned.

Anyone with cuffs like that owns the hood and can call it whatever they want.
I just googled it so imma assume he was Asian cuff guy.

Found this guy. I think I remember it being a good one. True?

Yeah...not bad...I liken it to Blanton's single barrel...which makes sense because it's supposedly derived from the Buffalo Trace Mashbill #2, like Blanton's/Elmer/Rock Hill.

Just had a near once in a lifetime score. Still pinching myself honestly.

So for those who don’t know I recently moved after 45 years almost entirely in the county I grew up in I moved a little over an hour south. Still been trying to find a goto store. Lots of museums here. Every store I walk in has blantons on the shelf at all times only for 150. No thanks.

This morning I had a job site meeting and on the way back decided to stop in this ABC store I’d seen a few times just to have a look around. Nothing great apparent but I grabbed a shelf filler bottle and proceeded to make small talk with the owner. He commented on my shirt and said “you do electrical work?” Confirmed I did and he asked if I’d take a look at a problem he was having. Was quick to say, gladly pay for your service not expecting a freebie. 10 minutes later I showed him the problem and told him it needed to be fixed and quickly. He asked me for a price, I said give me 15 minutes to make a few calls and get some pricing. Called back and told him he was looking at 900-1000 for everything. He asked “how quick can you fix it. Don’t need my shop burning down” sent a guy over, drove to the supply house grabbed a breaker and new feeders, within 4 hours of meeting the guy…we had him fixed up.

I came back by to check on our work..thinking maybe I can parlay this into a new honey hole…I had no idea.

When I came back in the store owner asked a younger employee to “go get the box on the shelf in the back”

As the employee came back store owner says “Please make sure - I am more than willing to pay $1,000. Not trying to screw you as you run a business but I’ve got some allocated bourbon and if you’d like we can trade “it’s your pick”. Im good either way.

I looked in his box that his assistant had brought out and he had some nice bottles. None I was willing to pay 1,000 for. I thanked him for the offer and said “man those are a few good bottles but none really worth a grand to me”

No problem. He began to count 20s from the register. The younger assistant who had grabbed the box says “wait - he wasn’t offering 1 bottle for the work - he’s offering all 5” the older guys immediately says “yes all 5 bottles barter for work. Or 1,000 cash”….

Ok that changes things. Yeah maybe over MSRP a bit but…way less than half secondary.

So for a $1,000 service repair (that let’s be fair - my cost was less) I scored:

Local ABC store had Buffalo Trace on the shelf…told me it’s come off allocation, not sure if that’s true or not, but that’s what they said. Grabbed another bottle of Pure Kentucky. Thought the Von Payne looked cool, so grabbed it. The Grunt Style bottle is an infinity bottle I’ve been blending for the last 6 months or so…no idea what the blend is at this point, but it’s delicious.
