Wheel wells are .025 alum, side decking and spare tire deck cover is .063 alum tread. It is still light enough to lift on my own but too big and awkward to maneuver or put on by myself.
Got the tail lights wired up awhile back. Then I reinforced the front crossmember and remounted the bumper and winch.
Also got the radiator flushed. I discovered that my truck avenger was an earlier model that had the metering block defect. I found my receipt from 10 years ago when I ought it and sent it back to holley. They Are sending me a new one free of charge. Hope this makes it run a little better.
Well its not as good as FI but thanks to Holley for replacing my 10 year old carb with a new one for free. Just had to dig out my receipt and send my old one to them. Hope this gets rid of the off idle hesitation that it always had. Hope try it out tomorrow and get the timing set also.
Did I mention that I miss the Toyota four cylinder? The v8 swap has created a lot of headaches over the years.
I have a taurus fan and a large radiator crammed under the good, they are able to keep the temp in check but usually results in the fan running a lot. The under hood temps always seem high too, despite the fact that there is little of the inner fenders left. I thought about venting the hood back when I painted it but decided against it, until just recently after driving it and idling. Could have saved myself sometime just doing it at the beginning but oh we'll.
Instead of spending big bucks on hood louvers I decided just to use 1/2 expanded metal. Since it is garage kept now I am not too worried about the open hood. This should vent a lot of the under hood heat.
Drove the truck around the neighborhood quite a bit this weekend. I forgot how much slack the Detroit adds to the drivetrain. Makes me wish I still had a spool in the rear. There is so much free play that the truck jumps forward when transition from throttle to coasting and back, also makes it hard to get a smooth shift. Almost like dumping the clutch everytime I let the clutch out.
Check out this pic, I got a rough estimate of the freeplay in the locker. The lines show how far the driveshaft rotates, it's about 45. Degrees. Is this what others have in their Detroit's? Its not backlash either, checked that it is within spec.
I did get the winch wired up this weekend and got a start on the anti-wrap bar. Good thing that copper is cheap these days since the batteries are in the back!
Got the wrap bar done and started on rebuilding the kingpins and replacing the axle shaft seals to stop my seeping gear oil problem. I ordered a kingpin rebuild kit thinking it would be a complete set for the axle. Guess I should have read a little better since it is only for one knuckle
Took some measurements for bumpstops, had to use a ramp off the trailer since I didn't have any other good options. Not that tall enough but close enough to get a good idea of what I need. Looks like I will have 4 inches up front and 5.5 in the rear for uptravel. Going to limit the front to 4 to keep the springs from going much past flat.
Also ran it up the ramp with the steering at full lock, the 5.5 backspaced H2. wheels made a huge difference between the previous 3 " bs wheels. Plenty of tire clearance. It would be a ton of work but if I could figure out how to fit the radiator an the trans in the tunnel I could get rid of the body lift. I think the stance would be really good minus the 3" bodylift.
If I ever get this thing where i am comfortable that it won't leave me stranded on the trail, we need to meet up and go ride or at least camp or something. Just bring out those bobo 35's of yours.
Got a plate for it and drove it on the road first time today. Almost felt like I was doing something illegal, it's been 8 years since the last time I drove it on the street.
