Charlotte meet/greet (1st & 3rd Fridays)

true, count me out due to the rain.. next time guys! I would pick a different location as well. I live in S. Charlotte and UNCC area is out of the way for alot of folks. I could go more central to Charlotte. Thanks guys and I hope to make the next M&G!

I would be much more willing to go if it was uptown or more central charlotte than concord. Thats like a 3 hr round trip for me.

my shop is in the fort mill steele creek area. it takes me 25-35 minutes to get there. For charlotte that is quick. uncc is only 8-15 minutes from up town depending on the traffic. and theres a couple ways to get there depending on where your coming from. ya the first time you make the trip it might take an extra ten minutes because you don't know where your going but after that it is not a bad drive. PLUS have you guys seen the price off gas? i saw it was a 2.85 at carowinds. if you guys want to have one down town which with down town traffic and parking and three million lights is probably just as bad, shoot me some ideas for a location. uncc is right off the highway two lights and your there.

A meet and greet sounds cool, but 30 miles is a ways to drive for me at least. That is half of the 60 miles it takes to get to Uwharrie. Gas is $2.99 or lower in most areas which is good yes, but there are other factors like driving time etc. This is all beyond the fact I work every Friday anyway.

My .02 would be to compromise on the issue. Hold one of the meet and greets on a Friday in North Charlotte, and then the 2nd one of the month on a Saturday in South Charlotte. Or a similar idea could be to have the 1st and 3rd Friday North Charlotte meetings, then have 2nd and 4th Saturday South Charlotte meetings. Central Charlotte is a possible idea, but its just a bad location as far as lights/traffic etc goes.

okay how about Elizbeth or CPCC somewhere?

Heck, lets call 4wheel parts and .... nevermind, that lot would get full quick.

a light rail parking lot somewhere would do too.

I like the central location idea. Matt and I were talking about the lots around downtown, there is a few down there that don't charge at night. More towards Mcdowell - away from tryon.
Now that would be central.

No matter where we go we have to behave and might even have to get permission too.

So how was it? Sorry I didnt get there. The heep wasnt there and I had a pretty busy night. Lots of rigs show up? Is the trip to the farm/gultches still on?

The car guys would meet at the arboretum in south charlotte on saturdays. That might be a good southern location for one on a friday, or we could crash their party with a bunch of 4 wheel drives..................

From what I have heard the police tend to crash their parties too. But the arboretum is much closer on the list of possible places, I could talk to a few of the police that work in that area (since the police station used to be over there..baker 2?...) and see how they would feel about it. What I do know is with all the rigs I see here in south Charlotte a separate meeting should be possible.

Thats funny cause I am the police and thats part of my area. I usually go and check out the cars and there hasn't been any problems that I know about. Now if somebody shows their ass and spins their tires and drives reckless then well thats on them and obviously they need to be dealt with.

All I know is what I have seen. On two occasions shopping at the Wal-mart there I have seen police telling a group of what looked to be street racers to leave from the parking area between the McDonalds and the Shell. Maybe our definitions of car guys is different, but the only ones I have seen up there are the street racers. Maybe we are talking about two different crowds.

Regardless it would be nice to have a south Charlotte meet in that area. Would make it easy being near the intersection of 51 and 16.

There's often a car show at 74 and 485 in Matthews in the old KMart parking lot. The parking lot is huge and we go up there occasionally. Just a thought.

Thats funny Tom, I was waiting for that to come out.
:rolleyes::cool::D

Also, you guys are moving from one side of town to the other.
If we had a southside meet, I guess I'd just drive the truck to work and leave from there. Wish we could come up with a more central spot.

How about the scaleybark light rail station parking lotl. It's never that full.

Yeah the street racers are the problem crowd. The classic car guys meet over by the ABC store on saturdays and we dont have any problems out of them. There nice and friendly. Thats were we need to meet at also.

That would make sense then, I don't go that far down into the Arboretum usually. But I was thinking that area of there where the ABC store would be a good location away from all the people at the McDonalds etc.

As far as a central Charlotte location it is a possibility. My vote would go to having the uptown meet on a Friday, then have another south side meet on a Saturday. There are a lot of options.

I like the sound of this location, although I have no idea where it is. Isnt this off 485?

How bout Hooters on south blvd?

There is enough people in the Charlotte area to have 2 meeting spots, for instance one in the UNCC area and one in the uptown area as previously stated. I just want to avoid driving long distances on the highway if possible cause 40 inch iroks dont like 70mph interstates.

Here is a little map showing the Circle K across from the current UNCC meeting spot, plus the ABC store in the Arboretum proposed location. (with highway 51 and 16 pointed out):

As you can tell the Arboretum location is actually a great location coming from multiple directions. If your coming from the west side of Charlotte Highway 51 makes it a quick trip without the 65mph+ speeds on 485. Same way coming from the east, you can take Highway 51 or if your further up you could take Highway 74 (Independence) down to 51. Or if your in center Charlotte or further south of Charlotte Highway 16 (Providence) takes you straight there. And both 16 and 51 are off of 485 also.

The only other easy access area I think of that is higher up towards central Charlotte would be further up on 74. And I am not sure of too many places on 74 that would be good for a meet. I will say my truck even with smaller 33" TSL's it has been loaned isn't fun to drive at highway speeds on 485. My 31s aren't that bad, but as of right now the TSLs are still on. The arboretum location allows for quick access from more Swamper friendly speed limit bound roads like 16,74, and 51.

That's what I'm talking about... but the only folks that would suffer then would be anyone east or NE Charlotte.
I'm in huntersville and do not mind at all coming down 77 south.
Tom, since you are the Police :), do you see an legal issues going to park here?
How bout Hooters on south blvd?
Is there room for 30-40+ rigs?

As for Arboretum, I see the space being friendly over by the ABC... but Anything 485 and around would not be friendly for me (or my tires) and anyone else North/NE... may as well have two meets then.
But I think we need to see how many people we can get together on ONE night at ONE spot not two spots from the get-go.
