Your going to be stuck with the small homeowner options then.
And I really don’t want to pay and take the time to load in dump truck and haul away. Because that takes me and my time that I can be doing something more useful.PTO 6” unit...larger DK or DR or WoodMax or similar 4” chipper
This is an inequality. You would be miles ahead to even just rent a 12" chipper for a day and get ahead of the backlog, then worry about maintaining as it comes in with a smaller machine.I have 3 piles the size of a school bus that needs chipping and more to come. The wife and kids will be busy. And I really don’t want to pay and take the time to load in dump truck and haul away. Because that takes me and my time that I can be doing something more useful.
Why is this?Bushhoging with hst gets real old real fast.
Agreed. My neighbor did this a while back - rented a great big new one; knocked out a huge pile in a couple of hours. You would be miles ahead to even just rent a 12" chipper for a day
You have to keep your foot on the pedal the whole time. On a geared tractor you just pick a gear, set it and forget itWhy is this?
Ive been on chip drop for a while. Most of the local tree companies dont have a website or FB page, they surely arent using it. Also, the local landfill lets them from brush, logs and chips for free, so paying to dump chips isnt going to happen. The only savior is if you are closer to them, than the landfill, and the homeowner doesnt want it.Chip Drop

The chipper needs the PTO to run. So you cant chip branches, and use the grapple to move logs at the same time. In a 1 man operation, it doesnt matter. He is planning to put the ladies to chipping, while he rides around on the tractor. Why is having an implement on the back of a tractor tying it up? It’s been years since I’ve done it but changing them isn’t that difficult or time consuming?
Around here it seems to work pretty well. I've never done it, but I know people who have. A week or so later an Asplundh truck disgorges itself onto their driveway.Ive been on chip drop for a while. Which is why even when I buy a new HST with loader, the International 424 ain’t going anywhere. I did that once for my uncle Gary, half a day and I was in agony. Cruise on a new tractor if available FTW.You have to keep your foot on the pedal the whole time. On a geared tractor you just pick a gear, set it and forget it

You really shouldn't exploit child labor. There are organizations that are opposed to that.

A neighbor had been cutting and chipping 4 rows of bushes in his front yard for a week w a small vertical feed machine, I think he finally broke/wore it out yesterday.Agreed. My neighbor did this a while back - rented a great big new one; knocked out a huge pile in a couple of hours.
I'm sure you could say the same about letting your 6 year old run the valve on the splitter too, but he is extremely intuitive and conscientious, and I trust his judgement with it better than most adults I know. Also, you're welcome to try to convince him to wear something else. He's the only person I've met who is more stubborn than his mothersplitting firewood w crocs on is a recipe for some injuries......

I'm good with that too, I ran the splitter for my dad over 40 years ago when I was that age, he still has all his fingers. Not sure if they've added any saftey features since then. And I'm sure I was in shorts at times. Maybe flip flops.I'm sure you could say the same about letting your 6 year old run the valve on the splitter too, but he is extremely intuitive and conscientious, and I trust his judgement with it better than most adults I know.
