CNC International Airport

Aside from keeping a sign shop and print shop busy (to change all the stationary and business cards, ID badges, etc), who does this benefit? How will changing the name of the airport bring even one more customer to it? If you are flying into Greensboro, it doesn't matter if it's named PTI, CNC, Bob or "Yankee Go Home". It's all the same.

I heard @BRUISER set up a license deal on behalf of CNC4x4 as a boondoggle to also increase their empire

Seems kinda ridiculous to me. It will cost millions to change all the highway signs and all the signage elsewhere. I fly out of Raleigh next month due to a cheaper, direct flight, not because of the name.

It's not just signs.
The 3-letter scheme is part of an international system that is used literally everywhere in the world.
There must be hundreds of different systems around the world that will be have to manually/independently modified.

Are you thinking of “GSO” vs “PTI”? GSO will still be the three letter airport code, as PTI was just the acronym.

Ah. I did not know they were keeping the same code.

Its not like there was a lot of info in that article.

If I was going to change the name, I certainly would have come up with something more catchy than Central NC. I don't really care but seems like a missed opportunity to jazz it up a bit if you are going to keep the sign makers in business. Anyone got some flashy name ideas since this entire thing is unproductive? I was thinking 'Richard Petty International RPI' might be something unique to the area.

Right, when I heard they were going to rename it, I was thinking it was to honor someone regionally famous; the King would've been cool! When I saw it was CNC, I thought that was stupid as hell.

With the "history" of who's in control of the urban areas of the triad (see Veterans memorial changed to Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum) I was certain it would be the "Jesse Jackson International Urrrpowt" since he went to NC A&T SU and such

Since we aren't allowed to name anything after a person anymore for fear that one day they may be deemed racist, sexist, fascist or communist, then that leaves naming stuff what it is. I guess the issue with Piedmont Triad is that nobody really knows what a Piedmont is, and the "triad" is supposed to be Greensboro, Winston and High Point. At least they nailed that one - kinda.

As far as "Central North Carolina, Greensboro isn't really "central". It may be central east-to-west, but the actual geographical center of North Carolina is about 10 miles northwest of Sanford. No where close.

I don’t know why they’re changing the name or who the F came up with that genius name...must have been a Mensa member. All I know is I fly out of there 2 - 4 times a year to Chicago to catch an international flight. It’s cheaper than flying out of RDU, traffic is nothing compared to going to RDU, and parking is a piece of cake. If they F that up I’ll be pissed off!
