Just put these things in for the first time...

Any tips you regular wearers recommend for the "newbie"?

Also, shop safety tips with these, what special precautions do I need to take when working on anything, besides the standard safety goggles...

lol, pratice is all really. The more you use the faster and easier it is to put in. once you are good pratice putting them in with no mirror (that will become handy!)

Also, Alot of people like leaving them in over night, I do not recomend. it cuts off the air to your eyes and makes your eyes worst. I quit the contacts and saving money for some eye surgery (as soon as my eyes quit changing.... grrrr)

edit, dust is a BISH!!!! get some goggles

Funny, I never even learned to use a mirror. I just look right at the lens as it goes in.
But then, I've been wearing them for >20 years... and have to have RGPs. Those are the thick hard plastic ones for really blind people.

After while you'll never even notice them. In the time being, buy a $5 bottle of eye drops, when they feel itchy, pop in a drop.
(I know you know what I mean 'cause you go to App and this is popular following The Chronic..)

Other thing is, you'll learn how NOT to rub your eyes. You can stil ldo it, but you have to be careful b/c POP, sucker will spring right out, maybe out on the floor, table, GFs hair... or maybe not out altogether, but sideways into the schlera and OHHHH that's fun..

but biggest thing ,is, as mentioned, plan to wear sunglasses when it's dusty. You get shite undert hem and it's pain city.

man its pretty freaky putting something on your eyeball the first few times. I remember I was late to work once cuz it took me over na hour to get them in. No problem after a few days of practice.
I don't really do anything special in the shop, or elsewhere for that matter. There's that old wives tale about welding with contacts, I guess they'll fuse to your eye or something. I actually forgot about that tale until just now, and I welded a few weeks ago.
I used wearing them overnight, once in a while I still do :beer::beer:. I quit doing that regularly when my lens got stuck on my eye when I tried to take it out, and I pulled my eyeball out a few mm's, maybe 1/4 - 1/2", I dunno, hurt like hell.
Mt. biking, sometimes I can feel them start to dry out, ya just gotta consciously blink a lil, you'll be fine.
Its helpful to have a little bottle of solution at work, for the random time you rub your eye and it pops out.

It's always worse when your eyes are dry. Lube 'em up!

I've been wearing them for over 10 years, but my eye doctors have all told me that I am an atypical lense wearer. I take them out every time I go to sleep but can wear them 20+ hours with no issues at all. Biomedics 55 is what I wear.

Take them out EVERY night, put a few drops of cleaner on them and rub them in the palm of your hand with your fingertips, then douse with fresh cleaner solution and put them in the case. I use Complete but have used Opti-Free on occasion.

I still use the mirror but can do without if I have to...

I cant get these stupid things out.

Did they give you one of those cool suction-cup plunger things?
Great tool. Look straight at it and stick it in your eye. the suction cup "sticks" to teh contact, you pull it out.
Pretty freaky but effective.

From what ive read, those are mostly for hard contacts, not the soft ones they gave me to use.

I got the right eye out...now I cant get the left.

you might want to try putting a drop in your eye first if its really stuck in there. ive been wearing contacts for about 5 yrs now and when its late and ive had them in for a while, a drop in the eye lubes them up well enough that they come out with ease.

just rub your eye alot... itll come right out
NOOOOOO!!!! Anytime I ever tried that, it would get all rolled up under my eyelid somewhere and I'd have a hell of a time finding it. One time, I swear that damn thing went behind my eyeball for a while. I just couldn't find it.

Use your thumb and pointer and just pinch it from both sides. I've had them for like 8 or 9 years now and wear daily's for 2 or so weeks straight without even taking them out. I've got a good pair of glasses and when one contact falls out after a couple weeks, I'll take both out and wear my glasses over night. My eye doctor even told me to do that.

Ive been wearing for 15 yrs now and I have the ones you can sleep in. Take out once a week and clean, good as new. Last a month or so. You will get good enough to put them in and take them out in a few seconds...good luck

Extended wear lenses are great! Until they're not...

I had that type and they worked well for about 15 years, then something changed a couple of years ago and my eyeballs could no longer tolerate sleeping in them. So now I'm wearing the extended wear ones as daily wear. There is a point to this... you might consider taking them out a little more often in order to get more years of extended wear use. Then again, I had years of hassle free use. :)

I wore contacts for 13 years then got the laser. best damn thing I ever did!

Ditto.. I wore glasses, then found out glasses suck when playing soccer :) so I went to contacts.. just as bad..

So 3 years ago I got laser, best investment I ever did..
I would do that in a heartbeat again..

I now have 20/10 sight in one eye and 20/20 in the other.. yes the wife gets pissed cause I can see things before see can when driving like street signs :) hehehe

Man thats just mean! (small print)

been wearing my contacts since I was 12 years old. I love them, but also hate them. I sleep in mine every night and haven't had any issues in 16 years!!! (fingers crossed)

for shop safety, the contacts act like disposable safety glasses. Just throw away after a night of welding/grinding!!!

You lucky bastard.
I can only get RGPs b/c my vision is so bad.
If I weat them > ~18 hrs they start getting sticky, have to add moisture.
I've fallen asleep with them in about 4 times in the 20 years I've worn them. 2 times resulted in horrible infection, other two were just really uncomfortable for about 2 days.

One good thing is, it's always been a "saefty valve" for a long night of drinkin' - I know that no matter how much I take in, I'm going to have to be able to take these suckers out before crashing.

got them in easy today. 10 minutes or less.

They feel pretty weird today though...I guess I just need to get used to them like new prescription for glasses?

That's happened to me a few times. It sucks.

It's actually not as hard to get used to new prescription contacts as it is with glasses. In my opinion anyway. When I would get new glasses it would feel like my eyes were popping out of my head, but with contacts I didn't have that feeling.

What's really fun is when you eat really hot wings and take your contacts out or put them in the following morning. It burns a little. I've screamed a couple times.

I have been wearing them for 10+ years.
You will get used to them and will only really notice them when something is wrong.
wear sunglasses all the time outside. Contacts can make your eyes light sensitive.

As for removal, if you use you pointer finger and move them off center in your eye, the suction is gone and they will pop right out with your thumb.

Get a Bausch and Lomb kit from Wally world or CVS, etc. It has a little zipper case with a lens case, a small bottle of solution, and rewetting drops. I keep one in each vehicle I drive, along with a pair of glasses for those time when the contacts just aren't going to work.

If you have allergies, prepare for the worst spring of your short life... Get medicine early, and take it. Your eyes will thank you.
