Now go argue about an insignificant detail of an inconsequential problem!

Who else is an engineer on here, what field do you work in, etc.

I'm a mechanical engineer by degree, went to UNCC, work in the Power Generation Equipment field as a manufacturing engineer and design for manufacturing consultant.

In my last year at UNCC for Mechanical Engineering Technology. Currently working at Endura Products as a Jr. Process Improvement Engineer.

I used to be in the mechanical engineering field, I didn't like it so I moved to the mechanical design side. I still don't like it.

I've done assembly/test engineering, aerospace engineering and design, HVAC system design, and mechanical system design. Currently work for a pharma engineering firm.

Still don't like it.

Mechanical Engineer. I am a product development engineer for a class 8 truck manufacturer. I work in the chassis equipment group. I have been with the company 14.5 years in the same group, and had part responsibility for almost every part in the group at some point during that time. I would like to get a job where I don't have to sit and stare at a computer all day because it really aggravates my neck.

Following up on the comments of others...
I occasionally really like my job, and generally just end up aggravated at how things are done in a non-sensical, non-technical fashion, and how engineering resources are wasted doing administrative tasks and project management instead of making a better product or process.

BSEE
Not a PE.

Can't fix YOUR dish washer, but can fix mine.

Degree in Nuclear Engineering, not that I use it much now. Work for a valve manufacture dealing with the nuclear industry on and off.

Went to NCA&T for Architectural Engineering

at least it SOUNDED convincing when they came to me in Design studio at the career center in HS anyway....5 yrs later I found out it's not a real field o_O :kaioken:

Went to work at a consultant engineer for PM&E in 1995 and with the exception of a hiatus from 2005-2009 to go into construction, I've been engineering Plumbing and Mechanical systems for schools, colleges, businesses, churches.... for 21 yrs now. I do everything from solicit clients, quote fees, design the systems, compose specs, conduct the bidding, then project manage to completion, along with BIM modeling/coordination, problem solve existing systems and qualify building for LEED and commissioning.
I'm in the vice presidents office now, with his car, phone and doing his job since he left in January, so who knows what I am any more other than tired all the time

'don't let perfection be the enemy of progress'

If those pesky lawyers and liability insurance salesmen weren't so gung-ho about their job security, they likely wouldn't

That's generally their response, to which I tell them to operate within the proposed specs and certs. More often than not, I've found airline companies, .gov, etc don't care how something functions, as long as it does in their price range for the 100,000 cycles (or whatever the metric is) required. RollsRoyce/GE doesn't care if your jet engine fin design will increase fuel efficiency by 3% if it's gonna cost 10% more. Southwest doesn't care if you've revolutionized the foodtray industry if they can't count on it opening 10,000 times a year for 5 years. DotGov doesn't care if your armor is 10% stronger if they don't need it. Rant over...I'll step off the soap box now.

For the record...you engineering folk are the biggest pain in my ass. Have to tell mine all the time 'don't let perfection be the enemy of progress'...at any plant, in any industry I've been in.

That reminds me of the saying, "At some point you just have to shoot the engineer and start production."

I'm a mechanical engineer from UNCC but am currently a manufacturing engineer for a tier 1 OEM supplier. Lots of fun
