To all my friends in the 4WD community... I am sure that most everyone already knows I recently sold my new trail rig, Granny 2. There are many people who know, and understand, my reasoning for doing so. For those of you who don't, I will explain, as best I can, from my point of view.
I started trail riding in the spring of 1996 with the Carolina Trailblazers which I have also been a member of since then. My wife and I have always been "outdoors" people and we were very much interested in what the Trailblazers were doing back then. In fact, we came very close to joining them in the fall of 1985, but things happened and we were eleven years in getting back with them.
Anyway, back then things were different. As many of the "old timers" will tell you, there really were actual trails to ride, and you could ride them for a long distance. It appears this is a thing of the past, and I don't foresee it ever coming back.
I have enjoyed spending days socializing at the Flats or the Farm, but it is not trail riding as I have known it. Darlene doesn't care for the extreme stuff at all, and frankly I can't say I really do either. We are/were trail riders... pure and simple.
So, the time has finally come for us to hang it up. Our off-roading days are over. We will still be camping as we always have, and we are currently shopping for a fishing boat. Once we find the right one, you may very well at times find us camped at Arrowhead. The only difference will be a boat behind the Dodge rather than a Jeep. If you see us, don't hesitate to stop and socialize. We have made many, many friends during our run with the OHV crowd. We will still be seeing you from time to time, and we will be looking forward to it!
