To all my friends in the 4WD community... I am sure that most everyone already knows I recently sold my new trail rig, Granny 2. There are many people who know, and understand, my reasoning for doing so. For those of you who don't, I will explain, as best I can, from my point of view.

I started trail riding in the spring of 1996 with the Carolina Trailblazers which I have also been a member of since then. My wife and I have always been "outdoors" people and we were very much interested in what the Trailblazers were doing back then. In fact, we came very close to joining them in the fall of 1985, but things happened and we were eleven years in getting back with them.

Anyway, back then things were different. As many of the "old timers" will tell you, there really were actual trails to ride, and you could ride them for a long distance. It appears this is a thing of the past, and I don't foresee it ever coming back.

I have enjoyed spending days socializing at the Flats or the Farm, but it is not trail riding as I have known it. Darlene doesn't care for the extreme stuff at all, and frankly I can't say I really do either. We are/were trail riders... pure and simple.

So, the time has finally come for us to hang it up. Our off-roading days are over. We will still be camping as we always have, and we are currently shopping for a fishing boat. Once we find the right one, you may very well at times find us camped at Arrowhead. The only difference will be a boat behind the Dodge rather than a Jeep. If you see us, don't hesitate to stop and socialize. We have made many, many friends during our run with the OHV crowd. We will still be seeing you from time to time, and we will be looking forward to it!

Don & Darlene

I definetly hope to catch yall out at the campground, I hate to see ya leaving the wheeling scene but I do understand that life is allways changing. I wish the best for Darlene and youreself in everything you do.

I have to say though, Debra and myself still hope to see yall at the Veterans Ride,s in the fall! (there will be camping)

Don, best wishes to you and Darlene in your future pursuits. I have enjoyed meeting you at various events and hope to see you again on the water one day.

I was told about a trick the other day and wonder if it works on flares. Use a heat gun on them and the chaffing/chalking is supposed to go away. Somebody let me know if it works.

cmon im a used car salesman, clean with alcohol, advance bumper coat paint, best 5 bucks u can spend

Don, stay in touch my friend and take care of my girlfriend! I know the feeling about changing life styles! We quit wheeling and became professional campers! I understand the "trail riding" 100%, it too is a lost way of offroading the youngins will never know which is sad!

Cant imagine not seeing you two around...so I guess that means I have a new buddy with a boat to go fishing on!
Just dont change your phone number!

No kidding. I hear stories, seen photos, I can't help but be jealous. After mountain city shut down, the nearest wheeling even close to that is 5+ hours away. (Uwharrie is fun, but doesn't count imo) There is one local spot with some awesome long trails, with tons of potential, but I frequent it rarely due to its nature.

It's a crying shame that now that the sport is getting popular and more affordable, trails are being shut down one by one. Make me want to throw in the towel on occasion.

I/we appreciate all the well wishes, etc.

Don, I hope I can talk you into riding shotgun with me sometime.

Matthew, that probably won't be too awful hard to do! :)

I'll take good care of her for ya... and just for the record, we celebrated our 40th anniversary on the 14th (Jan). I don't know if we will ever become professionals at fishing, but we're gonna give it a darn good try. :driver:

Again, many thanks to all!:beer::beer:

I 'm getting close to retirement so your idea of trail riding during the week sounded great but since you want to go fishing that sounds good too. I also like to fish especially surf fishing on the Outer Banks. Access there too has been recently limited, making it a little more difficult. I'm pretty good at baiting hooks earning me a title as a Masterbaiter. Let me know if your heading to the coast.

At the present time, driving to the beach is not in my plans. I'm really not much of a beach person anyway. I guess 4 years in Uncle Sam's Navy got me over that craving.

Hope all goes well with your fishing adventures, hope to see you around the campgrounds sometime.

Thanks Eli. :) I'm still boat-shopping... looking for a used Bass Tracker at the right price... no great rush, I'll jump when the right one comes along.

What happened to granny 2? Best wishes in the new venture.

Don , If I could offer some advise, Buy one with a 4 stroke motor, It will be more expensive but extremely well worth it.

Sold it... taking up a new pastime. :)

I'm shopping for a used boat Jason. It will most likely be 2-stroke. Had a 2-stroke Mercury 20 some years ago... didn't have any issues with it.

I know you sold it but to who?
