Future shop build advice

They're not the cheapest option so far but seem to be a good value for what you get based on my research and talking to a few other folks that have their buildings. My shop will be in a direct line of site to the house so I want it to be able to match the exterior facade of the house which limits my options a little bit.

@ghost unless something has changed, R&R doesn't do installations for their buildings. They do have a list of installers they recommend.

I wouldn't invest $90k in a carport style building. I'd have to go back and look at my quote from a few years ago but a 40x60 red iron was going to be less than that.

Feel free to shoot me a PM and I can give you more details on how much I'm into my 40x80 R&R building.

I was under the impression R&R did installs. I will not invest 90K in that type of building. I was shocked when they sent me that. Of course that was turnkey with concrete. But still way high. Pm incoming.

I bought my R&R kit back in September 2024, so things may have changed since then on them doing installs.

Might as well post some updated pictures of my shop. Cold weather isn't helping, I work better in the heat. It's been just over 3 years from when we started clearing trees to now.

All exterior metal is done except for the gables and corner trim. Started on the wiring, got all 16 LEDs installed. Ordered insulation for the ceiling. After that I need to seal the floor and then I can start moving some stuff in.

Looks great!

What's your ceiling insulation plan? I might need to copy it šŸ˜…

I've got a spray foam rig, if you want to do the spraying you can use it. 3" of closed cell works better than 16" of batt.

Bay Insulation of High Point has a metal building insulation that is a R-19 faced fiberglass with a vapor retarder backing. They do custom widths and lengths plus they offer different R-value options depending on building construction.

We have the same insulation from them in our old shop and we've been really happy with it.

The walls will get regular R-19 kraft faced fiberglass insulation from Lowe's later on after my bank account recovers from everything I've done so far šŸ˜‚

How does it look installed? And what's the rough price breakdown per sqft?

@awheelterd My quote came out to $1.25 sq/ft for the roof insulation. That's me picking it up at the factory and installing it myself.

Here are a few pics I found that kinda show the ceiling in the old shop.

Oh yeah, I could live with that. Is it all stapled or is there some sort of adhesive as well to hold the tabs together?

For my walls I'm thinking about using old chicken house insulation. 1.5 polystyrene. 4' x 20' sheets are listed all over marketplace for $15/sheet. Cut to fit between wall purlins and cover woth whatever marketplace osb or plywood i can find.

x2 on how it's attaching?

@awheelterd @ghost in the old shop, we used a polyester banding from Uline to help support the insulation and keep it from sagging down. Plus we stapled the seams to the purlins.

The new shop I'm using a metal banding that Bay Insulation sells along with screws to secure the banding. Plus staples along the seams.

I recently insulated our laundry room floor with what I could get from lowe's. The joist are wider and it didn't fit well. I've been looking for a solution to hold the two pieces up. the metal pieces I got from Lowe's didn't work well. If you have something that could help I'm all ears. Looking at Bay's site I'm not sure what you are talking about.

I haven't seen the metal banding yet, it's just what the sales guy said they used. I'm still waiting on them to finish my order. Of course, I ordered it last Friday, right before the ice storm, so I'm sure they're running behind.
