Getting Up Early....

I have been pondering this but never executed it and I think I just need some motivation. During the work week, I wake up with enough time to shower, get dressed and maybe 5 min to sit down and watch the news or something. so realistically, I wake up and give myself basically 45 min to get ready...now on the weekends...I usually get up the same time but am more motivated to awaken as I don't want to waste my weekend sleeping when I could be outside.

Do you guys wake up early during the week to give yourself time to relax and take your time getting ready or like me, just enough to get dressed and out the door?

I just find it really hard to wake up in the morning...I have tried putting the alarm clock away from arms reach...but they just makes me want to jump back in the bed even quicker.

bottom line....I LOVE sleep...but I want more out of my days....just need the motivation to do so.

I generally get 4 hours of sleep a night during the work week, I usually have a half hour of wiggle room to relax. I don't let the fact that I have to work during the day discourage me from doing fun stuff when I'm not working. I view the weekend as my time to 100% recharge...so it's not uncommon for me to sleep 10-12 hours, even then I'll continue on doing whatever I wanted to do anyway, that's what they made flood lights for.

Alarm goes off at 6:25, I'm up immediately and in less than 10 minutes have brushed my teeth, threw on clothes, loaded pockets and in my truck cranking it up. Quick and fast. I do most of my "waking up" during my 45 minute drive to work lol. I never get more than 6 1/2 hours of sleep per 24 hours. Even camping I still keep it around mignight to 6am shutdown time.

And never skip the morning coffee and a black n mild!!

I do the same. But on few occasions I have been up with plenty of time to spare and it makes my day so much better.

If I get up earlier than normal I find myself loosing track of time and then rushing out the door so I try to stick to the routine and all flows well.

Sara typically wakes me up at 6, no matter what day of the week it is. I don't mind getting up early, I like the quiet and getting things done... as long as I don't have to carry one or both kids while doing them. ;)

Depends on the day. Work week I am usually up around 630 to make breakfast, lunch, let the dog out to run around for a bit and whatnot. Out the door about 745 since work is only about 10 min away. After working retail for 10 years I never had a real sleep schedule because of the rotating shifts. Now that I'm an 8-5ish M-F deal, to get in this habit I had to set multiple alarms within a minute or two of each other so the snooze button wasn't an option and the alarms were more annoying.

On the weekends it usually depends on the weather. If its going to be stupid hot or humid I am usually up around 730-8 and out the door to get in my long mtn bike ride of the week. This time of year I can cheat a bit and sleep in but still get the ride done before peak temps. Its nice to be able to knock that out early and still have most of the day to burn doing other stuff. I don't take vacation days often (Stockpile them for deer/football season) so I tend to try and make the most out of my weekends.

What gets really crazy is the transition into a different work schedule like instead of working days, switch over to nights. Then throw in a difference in time zones. I've mastered the 'sleep on command' method. I hate routine lol

this is similar to my deal....I wake up later because my work is about 2 miles from my house...so I can leave later..

I really want to get up and hit the gym in the morning before work. But I stay up till after 11 every night while the woman yacks my ear off. We both get home about 530, by the time we make supper, bath the offspring and then each take a shower its 9pm. After that is our only time to wind down and talk about our day and have happy time if I'm lucky. Seems impossible to go to bed early and have much of a life.

skip shower time and get nasty. then shower.

problem solved.

This is also how I feel....I get home, change and sit down, figure out whats for dinner...wife and I go on our nightly walk around the hood and its 9:00...I like to stay up later but she likes to be in bed by 10 at the latest...so if I don't join her...im stuck downstairs.

This.
I don't know how many times I've gotten up a little early, then got out of my usual routine to stop and do something extra, only to find myself still running late anyway b/c I lost track of time.
It's just better for me to get up same time every day and do the same thing on my way out.

Weekend mornings are always a bit of a struggle in our house. My wife believes that is time to chill out and just do nothing. Her idea of "rest" is literally, doing nothing. I want to get up and do stuff and get it out of the way so I can "play" later. I find that if I sleep in on sat morning, and plop down in front of the computer/TV or whatever, I end up wasting the whole morning... then feel like shit the rest of the afternoon b/c I think of all the things I could have done that day but didn't, instead just pissed the day away.

I hate that feeling!

I usually wake up 20-30 minutes before my alarm goes off. I just lay in bed until alarm goes off that's more of my wake up time then the alarm is. I shower after work so get up let dogs out then head to work

Up at 6:00, get kids #1 & #2 up and moving. grab a shower, get kid #3 up and feed her. Send her off to mom to get dressed, make my coffee during all this. Make Kid #3 school snack and pack her bag. then I sit down to watch the news for about 15 minutes. Yell at the kids to get out the door at 7:05-:06. run them school 3 different schools!. back home by 7:45. kiss the wife, smack her on the ass and out the door at 7:50 to warm the Jeep up. If I'm lucky, I'm out the door at 8:05 because the smack on the ass got me lucky!

Weekends, I'm up by 8 for quiet time while all others sleep. then it's usually followed by Kid #3, then Kid #2 and then the wife. Kid #1 (teenager) usually has to be thrown out of bed on the weekends.

Alarm goes off at 6. I smack it off and turn on the news. Lay in bed for the next 30 minutes watching the news. Get up and get halfway dressed. Get Maggie up and get her dressed and ready to go. Wife takes her to daycare, then I finish getting dressed. Usually out of the house between 730 and 745. Work is 30 minutes away, but I set my own schedule.

weekdays i am up at 4:30 and go to the bathroom, get dressed and i'm out the door. it's a 20 min drive to work and i'm usually there by 5:10-5:15, so i basically spend no time at the house in the morning.
on the weekends i am usually up between 6:30-7:00 (we have a dog alarm clock who must wake up at 6:30 so he can go to the living room and go back to sleep)

Simple.
It's called self discipline.
Set the clock, go to bed, get up when it goes off.

But in truth, it's a;ways easier to do what you want than what you have to.

Matt

I'm not even sure why I own an alarm clock anymore. I have a kindergartner who comes in every morning announcing what time it is. We have told her to not wake up unless the first number is at least a 6. Most mornings, it's between 6:08 and 6:15, but I rarely get to stay in bed until my alarm goes off at 6:30 because she then wakes up the 4 year old who in turn wakes up the 3rd grader who turns on tv filling the house with the sounds of Disney Junior.

I wish I could wake up like some of y'all. Im never late for work at 7 but I've never early either I try to wake up at 6 so I have time to go Hardee's or McDonalds for breakfast but sometimes I have to skip it. The funny part is I go to bed around 9 or 10 and I don't drink during the week occasionally on the weekends. Just seems like I require alot of sleep for being 23 other guys stay up till midnight or later and seem fine at work

I am up about 5 every morning, a pot of coffee before 6 then I get going.
