Granny 2: The Resurrection

I got Old Granny's engine/drivetrain out today, and got the engine-side adapter plates made for the motor mounts. All I have today is a couple shots of the beast hanging in the air.

As normal on Wednesday, taking a day off to visit Mom for a while in the morning, then the wife and I spend the rest of the day doing whatever (shopping, etc.).

Not that I need to explain, but Wednesdays has been our designated weekday to visit my mother for about three years now. She is in an assisted living center and has Alzheimer's disease. Some days she knows us, some she doesn't, but we visit her regularly anyway.

I'll be back at the project on Thursday. Hopefully, putting something back in instead of taking out. :)

im off fri and sat... if you need anything feel free to give me a shout..... id love to be a part of history :flipoff2:

but in all seriousness.....

a little Ribbing ?

Now that you've show us how to build a "swing set", it's not copywrited, is it? And Don, the Navy sometimes sinks their Battleships, in the Ocean. Is Granny going to your' fishing hole?
[HAHAHA] Good luck Don!!!!!!!!

Geez... I'm beginning to think I should have called this the "Swing Set Thread". :shaking:

Keep the jags coming guys... I'm enjoying it. :)

Don a couple of questions(none about the swingset)

Staying with the carb or going Fuel injection or propane?

Any deeper on the axle gears?

What are your plans with what's left of Granny?

Are you gonna go with a new wiring harness or graft into the one on the YJ?

cage plans?

Looking good Don:beer:My dad has used same style swing set since I was lil kid...works great!!same here if you need a hand let me know:beer:

Chip, you really hurt my feelings by not wanting to know anything more about my "swing set"! :(

The carb will stay until I get everything hooked up and the bugs worked out. Then, if all is satisfactory a DUI ignition will replace the stock system, and a Howell injection will replace the carb.

Axle gears: I'm thinking no more for the time being. I'm pretty happy with what I have as I feel it's a perfect setup for trail riding... which is still my preferred cup-o-tea. This is subject to change.

Granny's body/sheetmetal is up for grabs (first come/first served). CJWalt has already inquired about it, but I have not heard back from him.

I'm going to try to use the Wrangler dash & gauges. I think I have most of it figured out. If for whatever reason that fails, I may try to find a blank CJ dash and go back to CJ gauges. This is also subject to change.

Full cage with option to lay the windshield down. I have a good friend who has a shop in Concord. I will most likely leave the cage work to him. If, for whatever reason, he can't do it I will go down the road to MarsFab.

Hope that answers your questions. :)

Thanks Chris... I've had several offers of help... I appreciate all of them, and if I could actually get a full-day's plan in place I would cash in on one of them.

I love it when build threads keep progressing. I'm guilty of starting something and letting it sit forever so I'm glad you're sticking with it. Thanks for sharing!

I'll never forget my first official trail ride with CTB.

Callalante(Pond Mt. to us then) Brooke and I rode behind Granny for most of that trip..I can still remember watching the little dog in the back window.:) We were in a bone stock TJ and I kept thinking that the ''Big bad jeep'' in front of me could probably tow me if I had any problems, because in my mind at the time..it was simply awsome. Come to find out, the ole' folks riding in the Granny Jeep were even more awsome..err.

Good luck with Granny 2 Don!

Thanks for the memories Granny!

If you decide you need to go back to a cj dash let me know. I think I have a pretty nice one out in the storage trailer if I didn't get rid of it for some reason.

looking good. Keep at it and you could be ready for the Caravan in some form.

Thanks Dylan... I remember that ride well. The little dog you mentioned did NOT like trail riding at all! Every time a limb scratched, or hit, the old metal top the dog had a fit. I don't think we ever took her again... I believe she died in 2001.

...and thank you Kenneth... I will keep that in mind. :)

I got the YJ wiring diagram if you need it to help with the dash, or anything else for that matter.

Don, you can use the stock YJ gauges or spend $50 and get a replacement pod and use 2" aftermarket.

Thanks Steve, I'll keep that in mind for future reference.

I'm going to attempt to get the motor set today, and get the mounts welded in. Gonna be hot, but I will be in the shade most of the time. More later............

Real Jeeps have Round Lights

Don, just wondering if you've considered using the front clip off Granny, or going to stay with the square lights? Always thought the CJ & YJ fronts were interchangeable.?

I think they are interchangeable, but I'm going to use the YJ. All the body/frame parts on it are in much better condition than the CJ stuff. Square headlights don't bother me at all. :)

For the past two days I have been working relentlessly on setting the engine in place, and I had to fabricate mounts from scratch. I hope to finish up the mounts and get them welded in tomorrow. Also, during the process, I have installed one inch of body lift which appears to be allowing everything to fit nicely. All indications are that with a few modifications I will be able to use the stock belly pan. If all goes well tomorrow maybe I will have a few more pics.
