Hurricane Helene

Alright, Monday update from Hendersonville and Brevard. Still shitty. Very, very little fuel. Stations have $20 limits and SHP is patrolling them.
Cash only at stores. Grocery stores have crazy lines.
Few people have cash and it's getting heated at check-out.
Gonna be ugly as people get desperate.
We went to Brevard today, next town over from us. Very minimal damages compared to Hendersonville. We're still in a bad way with utilities here. Gonna be a long few days.

Oskar Blues ok?!?!

I'd just camp out there

and hows it heated at the checkout? is there not a sign when going in that its cash only? seems pretty simple.

OB is ok but closed until further notice in an effort to keep their employees safe. Solid move IMO.
People say they didn't see the cash only signs and attendant stating such. Somebody was actually shot here yesterday over it.
We waited around 20 minutes today for the $20 worth. They have somebody directing you in as there is room, somebody guiding you to your pump, a SHP watching and cash up front.
Worked really well.
I'll try to top off tomorrow just in case. Otherwise I'll park the Gawdzilla and DD the WJ.
I'll say this, I'm glad I've read so many post-EMP books over the years. It's amazing how unstable society gets when it's members lose a little comfort.
I greeted a man on my driveway yesterday who was asking to cut across our woods to check on his elderly widow mother next door. I met him in only my boxers, t shirt and G22. Wife was keeping an eye out until he started his business and we realize knew each other through work.
Can't trust anyone at first glance. The ones who hear your genny running may want something you have pretty badly...

Cooked the last of our "meat" this evening. Gonna conserve the propane for running water instead of saving the food in the fridge.

Word.

I don't trust anyone on a good day

I’m ordering several solar battery banks today to take up this weekend to help. Looking for gas jugs and propane tanks if anyone has any they are willing to let go of. Full or not I will get them filled and up to some people in need
Home Depot and Walmart in Winston were both out of gas cans this morning.

Heading up the mountain I assume.

Just talked to my sister in Swannanoa this evening, cell service just came back up for them, semi-reliable service anyway. She said 40 East was open and a friend of there’s loaded his truck with gas cans and went toward Old Fort and was able to get gas. 40 West is still shut down but their friend just snuck in a convoy of work trucks headed back West and blended in enough to get gas back to them.

They’ve been told they could have power back by Wednesday. But they’re going to head towards Charlotte tomorrow and drop their oldest son off with some friends, then take 77 to Wytheville and come back this way to TN for a few days at least.

Just got home from getting a pallet of water in Knoxville and traffic from my exit on I-81 South to 40W to Knoxville is already heavy.40 East back to the 40E/81N split was pretty heavy for 9;30 on a Monday. Its gonna be a shit show down thru there for a long time.

As bad as it is to say hopefully this will open some eyes as to why you dont want a cashless system.

I forgot to add, her husband’s brother had been able to get there to them from Greeneville. He took the Asheville Hwy and said it was clear but he was stuck behind several tractor trailers despite the no trucks signs.

We lost water about lunch today. My nephew works for Uni-First uniform rental company and called today and said they wanted to send us some stuff for the flood victims. He's in Knoxville and met us at Sams and bought a pallet of water, plus some other stuff that was ask for.We would have got more but Both Sam's were out of water, three Walmarts and both Rural Kings were out too.I know none of this helps the NC folks but for those that wear uniforms from Uni-first just know they have made an effort to help.

I was told it was clear all the way to Asheville once they opened the bridge back up goin across the Nolichucky river.Truck traffic on that road ALWAYS sucks.Im 60 miles from Asheville and it takes me an hour and a half to get there.

We’re heading to Hilton Head for a few days next week. I thought about trying to go that way, but we’ll probably just make the detour to 77 and go that route.

South Greene HS is close to the NC line and that part of the county has been cut off due to the bridge failures and closeures.Since they reopened the bridge over the Nolichucky it's been a drop off place for water and supplies.FEMA came in there yesterday and seized/claimed/whatever,the stuff that had been dropped off there citing since it was left at a state owned facility they could do that and couldn't guarantee it would be used in the local community.
