JK and K5 build threads Bc you can never have too many toys

The best one I've ever seen is this clamp....which being a fellow machinist now, you could buy a pre-made clamp and machine the ID profile to fit :D You'll see the groove in the output shaft. Once that thing is on there, there's no way 5th gear can move. To hell with tacking the nut to the shaft or dinging up the threads!

You mean I can’t just make a whole one and EDM it in half? Lol

I mean...if THAT'S what you wanted to do...I guess so 🙄😁

Not going to lie, I cannnn make whatever I need to, but sometimes just don't feel like it. So I'll get something close and make it fit like I need it to. 🤷‍♂️

I understand that completely, why reinvent the wheel when you’ll have a lot more time in it. Time = money

Welded up my power steering resi while my assistant shop manager was finding me some work. I’ve really gotta pick up a tig rig for the house so I can practice more. I plan on machining the outside diameter to clean clean it up and I might do a radius at the bottom of the resi so then ugly ass welds don’t show.

They make us start at the bottom of the time card. It’s weird, half the guys at the shop are retirement age and have set ways about things.

I’ve got most of it welded some stuff I’ll get to when I pull the engine and trans out to swap in this nv4500 I picked up.

Made some more progress, was exhausted today so hopefully gonna finish it up tomorrow.

Well I got that part done, but I feel like just cruising in it since it’s a pretty day out. I’ll start my fender mods this week. Gotta get that done, weld on end caps to the sliders, lengthen the front drivershaft, build a traction bar, figure out if I want to just put the 5.38s in rear so I can take forever to get to uwharrie next month. I’ve gotta decide on some things so I can get this thing in the woods here soon.

Made the clamp I’ll build off of for the power steering resi, I’ve gotta see if I’ve got time to wire EDM it or I may just do it on the bandsaw

Made the wheelwells 7 1/4” wider on the passenger side. Gotta finish that side and do the driverside tomorrow.

I haven't made any progress on the jeep or k5 lately, but I've done new floors in the kitchen, both bathrooms, and laundry room. I found out in July 2021 after a court ordered paternity test, I've got a daughter in New York. It's a chick I dated summer of 2021, I'm paying out the ass in child support and I'm pretty sure I was trapped because she saw me as a paycheck. I really don't know what the future will hold at this time. My next court date is on the 12th where she's got to show proof of cause for me not to have full custody. She can't support herself without my child support checks, and she's not the most responsible adult. Its stressful and I'm making monthly trips as of right now to NY to visit my almost 10-month-old. For Christmas I had to consult my attorney just to see my daughter at her daycare for less than 5 mins and drop off a toybox I built for her. Shes trying to force me out of my daughter's life and has told me she just wants me to go away and pay child support. I can't do that, morally it's just wrong and my dad was kind of a shit dad. I can't let the pattern repeat.
After I get house my squared away to pass a DSS inspection, I've got to get my jeep back together and get it out of the garage. Then get the K5 back in the garage to swap the cammed 6.0 in and NV4500. So hopefully I'll know more after the Jan 12th court date.

Well she lawyered up, so my dreams of a turbo square body tow rig have been pushed back more. Kind of bummed but my daughter is my priority and I’ll just keep collecting parts here and there as I can. Really hoping I don’t have to sell my house and move to NY to have a relationship with my daughter. Every firearm I own is illegal there, so that’s really crappy. Also why do roller square bodies bringing $2k or so for a decent and straight body? Ridiculous is how the market is on those.

Sorry, that's a tough situation, but you're being a stand up man and father. Kudos to you

I’m just trying to do right by my daughter. When she smiles everytime I see her or the temporary court mandated daily video chat with her, it’s more motivation to keep fighting.

But one day this 70mm tsunami slinger will find its way on a LS powered square body. My daughter ain’t gonna be impressed easily to say the least.

I've been debating on milling my own tailhousing adapter to clear the NP205 shift rails, get a 5th gear lock nut, and adapting my clocking plate to the 6-bolt flange of a NV4500. I reached out to ORD about their cast iron tailhousing adapter and 6 bolt to figure 8 adapter and they ensured me even though I've got a clocking plate for the figure 8 NP205 everything should work together, and I'll be able to reuse my own driveshafts. So hopefully next month I can pick up their tailhousing/transfercase adapter, I'll likely remake the clocking plate, so I don't have 2 things sandwiched between the transfer case and the tailhousing adapter. I did acquire another set of 706 heads so I can go ahead and do new springs, retainers, seals, and locks so I can finish putting together this cammed 6.0 to go in the k5. I plan on taking my spare 205 and putting it on the Wotan at work, it's a big ass horizontal mill to bore out the input. It would be easier than setting it up on a faceplate in a lathe or trying to get it level on a Bridgeport to use the quill feed. I'll just tell my boss its so I can get more training on it, legit I need to learn it. I'll just have to sweep the input bearing bore and run a indicator across the factory machined face where the figure 8 bolt pattern is. I want to have this new drivetrain in the K5 by the end of March.

Well made a little more progress and decided I want to do more work, lol. Picking up a can of layout fluid from work and then scribing the head gasket on the heads. Gonna break the shaper edges in the combustion chamber and blend them a little. Also going to clean up the valves and lap them back in. Had to put a dual spring, and tool steel retainers to see if everything would jive. The 5th gear lock nut, figure 8 adapter, and 32 spline input should be here today as well.

I ain’t made shit for progress besides my daughter fell asleep in it on the way back from a offroad club meeting so that was cool. Also made me realize it’s not too loud.

I regeared some axles for a guy, got paid. I’m really debating building sets of axles to sell. Simple stuff like straight JK dana 30 housing I’ve got, I can weld a truss, inner C gussets, ball joints, and 4.56 gears and have a matching rear someone.I was thinking 2,000-2,500. I’ve also got a JK rubicon front axle I’ve got a truss for a new housing to swap the guts into and regear. Need to find a rear and add a locker and regear it, was thinking like $3500-4k for that pair. I’ve also got another GM 60 housing I really don’t need. And everything to rebuild the whole axles minus it but wheel hubs to put it together, have a 14 bolt I throw 4.56 gears in them, $2500.

I feel like that’s fair pricing, but curious as to the thoughts from the cheap asses on here, lol.
