XJfreakHO with the Triad Trail Junkies has offered to donate $100.00 to the Friends of URE group! This is a very Young club and they have stepped up and did this for a very good cause!

I wonder if there are any other more established clubs that could meet or give a donation of some kind? Man power is great but this is for much needed rental equipment for the June work weekend! Eli is working with a rental company and is receiving some great discounts! Come on guy's and gal's, let your club know this is a great cause for everybody involved!

Actually I just got an update from TTJ and they are almost at $200. Its a true testament that a club that is just starting out is willing to cover that much money. It makes me wonder what the larger clubs that have many years under their belt can come up with! We need to raise at minimum $1,300, which is no small sum of money (and that is after nearly $500 in discounts through the rental company). And 100% goes straight into keeping the trails at Uwharrie open.

What about an individual that woud like to donate, paypal, address to send a check, or maybe someone that could collect at mars fab event

Definetly post up a paypal , We all know that times have been tough for a while, but even a couple of bucks adds up too be alot.

That is nice to see them step up and donate but I know at least one other club here in NC that has spent hundreds if not thousands in the last 2 years helping URE with equipment etc on workdays..

Glad to see the new clubs stepping up also

i know Cltdba has done it at least once out of his own pocket.... but this is not a props thread.

The purpose of this thread was to get the word out about the work weekend, and that we need donations. Because this is a OHV Community Work Weekend, and we need everyone involved including the clubs. And to show that clubs are helping out, we posted something about TTJ. This isn't a deal of "well we donated more than you" thing, its a lets get everyone together for this and make this happen.

This work weekend in June that we are raising the $1,300 for is an opportunity for the entire OHV Community (clubs and individuals alike) to show our commitment to keeping our trails open. And the Forest Service is behind this 100 percent, so lets make it happen! :driver:

Didn't read the whole thread, but TTJ also donated $100 towards the rental of the bobcat for the last workday. Those boys party hard and donate harder!

I think that the Friends of URE is a great thing but the way I read it was; "hey other clubs we need more money and one stepped up so please donate to the Freinds of URE."

The truth is just because other clubs have not or are not donating money to that specific group does not mean they do not spend money also.

To pretty much call out other clubs in a public forum for money is just not the way I would have done it.

this is just my opinion and not that of any club/organization I am part of or have been part of.

Nothing I say will change how you view this. If that is the way you want to look at it so be it. Bottom line this isn't a donate to Friends of Uwharrie thread. The work weekend is on the same weekend as the normal work day where all the clubs and others participate. Its an OHV Community Work Weekend, not a "Friends of Uwharrie" work weekend. The money raised for the equipment rentals benefits everyone attending the work weekend. This is a group effort that involves everyone.

But lets keep moving forward.

Every little bit helps in our effort to make this OHV Community Work Weekend a reality. I have talked with Deborah Walker, Terry Savery, Rodney, and others and the Forest Service is behind this 100 percent. They want to do what they can to help, which involves looking at the use of the Forest Service Bulldozer. Along with discounts we are getting through the rental company, we are doing everything we can to make this a reality at the cheapest cost possible.

Props if any goes to the FS for "allowing" the public to be involved at this level! This volunteer work helps the FS imensley as far as being able to spend monies in other areas that helps the Forest grow so to speak. As we all know it would be a LOT of red tape and wasted money if the FS had to spend money just to pick up cans, much less do the trail maintenance. This has been handed to us and I think we should take advantage of the situation as long as it lasts. URE has not always not been as friendly at times in the past with allowing us to get involved. Maybe I was misunderstood and I'm sorry.

Well then if this is to benefit all of us for once I would like the Forest Service to step up ahead of time and lay out a plan for the workday.

the Last 2 I have been on where total clusters. One group goes here, one group goes there, then the gate is locked and we can not find anyone with a key.. then the rangers state they will be by soon to give better direction and are never seen again. etc..etc..

Before I drop $1 let alone $1300 this time.. I would like to publicly ask to see a plan from them.. not one that we think up.

Do I want URE to stay open HELL YES and do I go to work days YES.. Been doing that since 1999 and will continue.. but for once I would like to see them have things coordinated for all clubs, volunteers etc.. I am afraid that if we bring down $1300 worth of equipment it will not get utilized like it could if we actually had a plan.

Check out the June planning thread. If we get the equipment there we can pretty much have at the trails. Some input in that thread would be helpful.

Terry,

You do not need to be sorry you made a statement and so did I, I just feel that people need to know what has taken place and what is taking place.

I was around when URE was not always happy to see us and things would get done to benefit one group vs another group.

We were all glad to see Deborah Walker when she took over which got the "gentlemen" that had his mind set out of there.

I just want to see more organization on there side.

and Yes as of right now I plan to be there for the work weekend.

that is a very BOLD statement.

Input on that thread is now.

Ken...as usual, I agree with ya...I dont think a few see what you are saying and that is unfortunate.

I don't want something I said to hurt this cause in any way. Maybe I started this thread worded in the wrong manor. Context can be misunderstood in print. I listen to many sides at URE. I think sometimes I'm the go between that ideas can be related to. I've had many conversations with a lot of Rangers and 4wheelers and Atv's and bike riders. I hear a lot of everything from all sides. I'm just trying to help in the way I can, no offense taken or given. What ever the volunteers are doing, it's working. The FS couldn't be happier about it.

I believe Terry made this thread because TTJ is a very young club and is coming up with a pretty big donation for FoU. He said "hey this young club full of mostly young guys has come up with a fairly big donation, if we could get some BIG clubs to do similar we could really knock out a chunk of what is needed for the BIG JUNE work day".

Sort of a friendly contest type thing.

And it seems like people have taken it as a slight to their donations in the past.

I KNOW that is not what Terry meant, and he even said that.

If we want work days to be more than putting up trail markers (which on some trails is beyond not needed) and picking up trash, we really need donations.

We had BIG RED donated, because the FS augers are terrible and a complete waste of time, BIG RED is better, but in some areas just can not get down through the rocks and roots like a bobcat can.

I know people that used to crap on the bobcat idea may have changed their minds when they saw how well a bobcat actually works and just how much work we can get done with one.

But all that takes money.

Times are tough, everyone knows that. Oil is steadily going up and I don't see it coming down for a while. But if you can't donate money you can donate time, or tools, or whatever you have/feel like donating to the cause, is more than welcome.

If we get the type of equipment we are planing on in June we can bust/remove rocks, fill in ruts (all of this is in the planing thread) and we have discussed this with the FS. IN addition to the FS using the bulldozer. We're talking a huge workday, a culmination of what we have been working up towards.

Lumping all workdays into a cluster because of how one off season workday went when all but one FS staff was available really isn't fair to the rest of the volunteers that bust their asses every single work day, every month.

We've steadily worked out kinks, and the regulars that show up, know the routine and know to show the people who don't show up as regularly the ropes. I think communication with the FS has improved and they realize the level of commitment we can provide.

To say donations in the past is not appreciated is incorrect. We appreciate every dime, every piece of equipment we get and we use it the best we can. But to keep going and to do more we need more. OR we can just go back to picking up trash, putting up trail markers, and a piece of guardrail or two if were lucky per workday.

I have been putting off responding to this thread for a while.

I agree that the way the thread was presented could have easily been taken the way it was by some, hopefully they do not hold that against anyone or this event in particular. Saying what you mean in text form is not always the easiest thing to do and it can come out wrong sometimes. I think its fairly easy to understand that coming from Terry it was meant in a non confrontational way.

We have all had some issues with the forest service, but at the last off season workday we got there early, the groups were split up and each had something to do, I know we didn't use all the time paid for on the rental, but we did get a lot accomplished and everyone seemed on there game. The only thing that I can say could have been done better is we should have had more guard rail available that way we could have accomplished more while we had the bobcat rental. Considering that seemed to be the only issue, I would call it a very succesful workday

Hopefully we can pull together and really accomplish something at this upcoming work weekend, I look forward to seeing all of you there.

I understand the relationship between the ORV community and the Forest Service at Uwharrie hasn't always been a great one. To the point we were told "That we need to find somewhere else to ride" at the ceremony for the Dickey Bell Connector. We being the full size ORV guys, not the ATVs/dirtbikes etc.

That being said, this work weekend has been in development since last June when I first spoke with the Forest Service about this. The official plan will be laid out before the work weekend. I talked with Deborah, Terry, Mellisa, and others opening weekend and we are hammering out a sit down meeting. I will be sitting down with Deborah Walker and Terry Savery in Locust on a TBD upcoming Thursday. I am sure we could work in any representatives from clubs that would want to attend, but it is set for a Thursday during the morning when most people are working. So I will not be surprised if its just me.

We have been communicating with other clubs for a little bit now about this before this thread was posted. And hopefully between the clubs and the individuals we can make this a reality. The more commitment I get from clubs and individuals before the sit down meeting, the better idea I can give Deborah Walker and Terry Savery of what kind of resources we will have for the work weekend when I talk to them in person. This allows for us to compare notes (as Deborah Walker put it) and come up with a more solid plan for the work weekend. If she knows we are on track to having X amount of equipment, and X amount of clubs/people coming we can more accurately divide up the work load and have a plan to get as much accomplished as possible.

The bottom line is one group/club won't be enough to pull this off. We need all the resources we can pull together, which involves anyone willing to help in any way possible. Its a great opportunity for people to be involved in the trail system beyond putting up trail diamonds, picking up trash, and the occasional guard rail install.

But I should have been asleep a couple hours ago, I took a peek at NC4X4 on my phone before going to bed and ended up getting on the computer to post this up. So I will post more up later.
